The article suggests that both Heaps and Pierce" suffered" when they tried to mark LDA midfielder and one-time Revolution acquisition target John Wilmer Lopez. Article also states the Revs played a cautious match, tightly marking Erick Scott and Steven Bryce from the get-go. The article also suggests that while the Revs did have their scoring chances, that they weren't especially coherent.

Sin complicaciones: Alajuelense sin apretar el acelerador ganó a un New England Revolution que no mostró mucho.

Article effectively suggests that LDA didn't have to work that hard to beat a Revolution team that "didn't show much." It suggests that large parts of the game being dominated by LSA left their fans "bored."

It was pretty disappointing to see no local coverage this morning. After all, the game was over by 8PM EST.

Alajuelense 4 - Revolution 0: Sin apuros, la Liga sentenció la serie contra el Revolution
By Álvaro Murillo M., La Nacion
    http://www.nacion.co.cr/ln_ee/2003/marzo/24/deportes1.html

Article effectively states that LDA can safely look forward to the next round, also suggesting that while the Revs displayed "a good touch of the ball," that their game was without "depth." The article also suggests that LDA eased up in the 2nd-half.

The article rates Pierce and Franchino as the Revs best players on the night.

John Wilmer Lopez commented that the Revolution didn't know who he was (i.e., the quality of player) and as such, gave him a great deal of room to operate... also commenting that they were able to beat the Revs with better control and ball movement.

Coach of LDA did say the Revolution were strong from their set plays.

Steve Nicol is also interviewed in this piece and suggests the Revolution were hampered by two yellows, a good number of fouls and that "The referee could have better performance." He also suggests that the 4-0 scoreline is not an accurate reflection of the match as the Revolution "gave the fight."

Manudos de alta revolución: Alajuelense venció 4-0 al New England Revolution en el primer juego de la serie del Torneo de Campeones y Subcampeones de la Concacaf.

"With pure speed, lethal counterstrokes and precision in all its lines, Sport Liga Alajuelense took yesterday a great step for its objective to follow with life in the Match of Champions and Runners-up of the Concacaf after making goals 4-0 to the New England Revolution of the United States in the first game of the series."

Article suggests that while the Revolution pressured early, LDA responded with better midfield play and speed in attack that the Revolution couldn't handle. There's also comment that the Revolution were getting tired later in the match.

Just for the record, there were no articles in today's Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and the official revolution website is still yet to provide the score-line or anything akin to a match report on their website. this to the contrary of what their site has indicated, that "Results can be found here at revolutionsoccer.net."

I can't wait for them to redesign and rework the site.

    from today's Globe sportslog:

Erick Scott scored two goals as Alajuelense blanked the Revolution, 4-0, in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The teams meet again Wednesday ...

LOL! That should happen sometime in 2010! Their site is pathetic, with 2-3 year old stats and player bios. It's 9:35 and they still haven't posted the results from yesterday.

I guess the Partiots new FB signing is bigger news to them. Pathetic Revs PR & Marketing effort!

It didn't help that the Associated Press didn't have a story on the match (the AP did have reports on the Columbus and L.A. home games).

For the Eagle-Tribune, I whipped up a very short story based on the CONCACAF/MLSNet.com report, as well as the snippets of the game I caught on the Internet and the out-of-town reports. Just basic facts. It wasn't put up on our Web site, but it wasn't much of a story. But we did have something, at least.

Actually, from what I've heard it will be MUCH sooner than that.
