Unlucky card for Revolution By Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff | May 5, 2007 http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2007/05/05/unlucky_card_for_revolution/ Joseph, MLS talk contract By Mike Biglin/ MetroWest Daily News, Deputy Sports Editor Saturday, May 5, 2007 http://sports.bostonherald.com/soccer/view.bg?articleid=198716 Davis: Tricks of the trade By Steve Davis / Special to MLSnet.com http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20070504&content_id=92019&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
Not Revs news, but I wonder if the time Nicol spent in Florida was to speak with Steve Heighway about a possible role with the Revs as an adviser/youth coach/scout? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premiership/article1744496.ece It's pure speculation, but he's in the states right now with the Liverpool youth team, is on his way out, and owns a home in Clearwater, FL. He also played in the NASL with Minnasota, coached in the US, and calls himself "the best youth coach in the world". He's still open to a part-time position with Liverpool as an overseas scout, so he could easily do that and establish a Revs academy at the same time. With the ability to have two out of market clubs associated with your team, he could even start a joint Liverpool/Revolution academy closer to his home in Florida. Pure speculation, but it's another theory to why Nicol was in Florida this week.
Class Warfare Heating Up? Plus An Interview With Jeff Larentowicz By Jim Dow I didn't see this one posted yesterday: Sunday Morning Striker: 2006 EC Final - The Remix! by Brian O'Connell
What on earth are you getting at? Fact is, when/if (and it's looking increasingly like when) the transfer window opens again and Shalrie goes East, the Revs can only hope that Hernandez is ready to play.
You read the article? I think he's basically saying that Jeff is spelling out that being absent leads to becoming irrelevant, and losing your place in the lineup. Unless of course your name is Franchino.
You read the Herald article? "Shalrie Joseph and Major League Soccer have resumed talks about a new contract." Sure, there's a good chance Shalrie may leave. But, its at least 50-50 that he'll re-sign and stay around a few more years.
Be great if he did. Great that they're talking again, as they had been off-and-on for six months or so. I sure hope he stays. But if...
Like Tony said, being absent means you become irrelevant, plus there is the fact that Larentowicz is being paid 20% of Hernandez's salary, when he's (IMHO) about 85% of the player (the missing 15% being offensive contribution). Like the interviewer, I think that could lead to resentment, when DH is sitting on the bench not doing anything, and making 5 times as much money as Big Red or Dorman to do so. That could lead Nicol to try to ditch him.
If the Revs attempt to bring a player in during the summer transfer window someone will have to go but I'm not sure Hernandez is the leadingregular roster candidate to be cut. In figuring whose the odd man out so much depends on how well the youngsters are developing. I think if Joseph is signed and the Revs want to sign someone this summer dumping Danny and his Cap portion and counting on Joey and Flood to back up Larentowicz and Joseph is a reasonable idea.
Rodan, Nothing personal, and I was not criticizing you, just wondering if you knew the background to the comment. Evidently, there's a large gap in how people perceive Daniel's worth, though I don't think anyone would dispute that it's going down every game that he's not available.
Yeah, I think it's actually more likely than that. When it comes down to it, they're not really that far apart and they're in a position where they both need each other. Seeing as how the Revs haven't been able to find a player worth spending the bulk of the Dempsey money on, I can't see how they would want to let Joseph go too. And the fact that Shalrie's guy is negotiating for him indicates that Joseph is willing to finish his career with the Revs.
