Let's Get It On! by Mike Marshall

An aside to ProseLtd on thread topics:

"Rev news" would seem to apply to a single player, while "Revs news" would refer to the team. Call me a nitpicker...

Glad you have a sense of humor, please do keep posting the daily news links.

I'm sure there's much more important things to argue about, but "the Rev" or "Revo" designation has always sounded weird to me.

Not that I frequent the Big Baseball, Big Football etc boards, but it would seem equally strange to see topic titles such as Pat news, Red Sock news, Celtic news, or Bruin news.

Not to get overly technical, but shouldn't it be:

    Rev's News or Revs' News?

    I say, Tony...

I think Rev is referring to Revolution rather than Revolution players. Revs news sounds British as in maths for mathematics, or "Revolution are contending for MLS Cup".

The name of the team (Revolution) is singular, while the other teams' names (Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots) are plural. Revs news would be comparable to Red Soxes news.

As for the other article, you are probably referring to this one:

The actual name for the team is singular, but isn't the nickname usually used in the plural tense? Perhaps I differ from the mainstream here, but if I'm going to a game, I say that 'I'm going to watch the Revs', no 'I'm going to watch the Rev'. I would agree that you wouldn't say "Revolutions' News", but that wouldn't seem to apply to the common usage of this nickname.

I'd also like to add that that it's kinda funny that on the day of the season opener, the biggest topic of conversation concerning team news is about semantics.

Blame in on the ingrained defensive mentality of the Revs: When Ralston is streaking at you down the wing, he is indeed coming at you from the left side...
