Rev's News , January 30, 2008 Soccer America Revs open camp with holes to fill by Ridge Mahoney http://www.socceramerica.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Articles.showArticleHomePage&art_aid=25363 Striker Taylor Twellman groused about an aborted transfer to Preston of the English League Championship (second division). The offer eventually reached $3 million, still the Revs said no, and the issue is all but dead. Veteran Joe Franchino has signed a new contract after playing just three games as a substitute last season because of a torn peroneal tendon in his right ankle and a personal leave of absence. Draftees Adam Cristman and Wells Thompson ended up playing a combined 55 games (25 starts) last season. They could be regular starters this season, with Cristman teamed with Twellman up front and Thompson taking the right midfield role. Valentino is in camp, as are Matt Britner and Spencer Wadsworth, taken in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. Germanese is finishing classes and will report to the team in May. Also tending to academic matters are Supplemental selections Chris Tierney and Saidi Issacs.
Re: Rev's News , January 30, 2008 The link is messed up (Two http://'s). I'm just happy to see some report about training camp.
I noticed that too. It made me chuckle. Bob Kraft definitely hasn't changed. "What! You mean they would expect me to spend my own money to buy players!? No way, Jose!"
level playing field? maybe i'm missing something (still half asleep), but what's that supposed to mean? also, did you see the comment from Stephen Forever red? a lot and a lot, right?
pretty nice!!! I want to see the alternate jersey's as I know they have not really been up to par recently! But that jersey is pretty noice
Everyone always says that when there's a new kit. Give it time, I'm sure it will grow on you. [edit to say]Nevermind. You're right. That's really bad.[/edit]
01.) Kraft should pay attention to the professional top-flight soccer club he currently owns before taking on another one. 02.) Why in the name of Joe Gaetjens do we have to have a new US shirt design every few months? Makes the supporters look silly in a hodgepodge of different kits and different colors. Who cares if this one's good or not, it'll be gone shortly.
Every few months? More like every two years, like practically every other national team on the planet.
I dunno, we got those pinstripes last year, two new kits the year before that, and now this one, that's every year. Not to mention the limited edition "tread on me" jerseys. And most other countries may update the styling on their jersey a little bit, but they don't go in for wholesale change regularly. In fact, the best and most recognizable teams have worn pretty much the same thing for decades, like Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Germany, Netherlands, Mexico etc. It's part of how you forge an identity. To me, it reeks of a cash grab, and my suspicions are only reinforced when the new "new" kit looks more like a polo shirt off the rack at the department store than a jersey.
The pinstripes were our third kit, we didn't have one before so they added it for the Gold Cup and Copa America. I'm reserving final judgement on the new kit until I see the away kits and I see it in motion (a.k.a. against Mexico), but it's definitely an interesting idea. I don't know if I like the shades of gray yet, but in the time since it was unveiled until now, it's grown a bit on me.
I like them,....just wondering if the away jersey will be blue (like every other team in concacaf) or if we'll get a red one with white pinstripes - that would be awesome.
Exactly. There's no US shirt identity because of the constant changes in the design of the shirt. Holland is always orange, Italy is always blue, etc. The USA is always...well, whatever "hip" design the tastemakers at Nike decide on. Just look at the crowd of US fans at the next game...it'll be a mishmash of different designs.
There were leaked images a month or so ago of a dark blue kit with red "shoulders", very similar to the new training kits. Seamus, being a die-hard for the Revs/USMNT, you should know that the identity of the fans isn't blue or white, but red. That's always been an interesting part of being a national team supporter for the US, that simple choice of color seemingly unifies the support and players in an extraordinary way.
