With all this speculation about Saliba, hopefully in his case the club will at some point be explicitly clear to the public/fans what his situation is. Back injuries in football are not as common as hamstrings or cruciates. So it's harder for us fans to have an intuitive feeling about his prognosis, how long he'll be out, likelihood of getting back to where he was at his best, etc. But I'd guess there are a variety of surgeries that run the gamut of risk, complexity, etc... from herniated discs to fractured vertebrae. Bated breath indeed, right @yossarian?
back surgery has come a long way but it’s a significant injury especially if it goes back to his youth I am just curious what precisely the issue is with his back is. either way I can’t believe he actually got a green light to play in the World Cup
Zubi is great...against certain opposition. I don't think he deals with the physical side as well as I had hoped. Overall, good but there was a reason we went with MLS late in the season. Another season in the league and I think Zubi will show visible improvement. Arteta will have to limit the number of games for certain players (Rice, Zubi, Saka come to mind).
Don't want rodgers The central progression thing we've also seen at the world cup Centre is packed with goons, so no one wants to play through there because of counter - so best outlet is wide, which sides allow, and then perhaps rely on a pressing trap or double up (as we often see against Saka)
There's rumor of a fracture. I know that sounds bad, but based on what my chiropractor has told me (don't laugh unless you've tried---I go every 6 weeks and it helps ) that's not as bad healing-wise as a lot of the disc problems that can be really tricky.
I'd prefer a true winger like Barcola over Rogers (Doué over both but that ain't happening), mainly because I'm not entirely clear how we'll want Rogers to play on the left. But I'll trust that Arteta has a plan for him, so I won't complain if that's who we sign.
Do not want Rodgers at all. BTW is this the year we transition to a Calafiori/Mosquera CB pairing for better buildup? (CC: @DaPrince84 ) I would go all out to get Vini and keep this Greek yute as a deputy. With Dekkers injured I would go Skelly CM with 2 8's. Time to let the Ferrari go
Isn't that an argument for Rodgers? His ball carrying is something really only Rice has. Let's you break up the block by drawing more players in.
Im telling you guys man that dude is fake news. I'm sick of these EPL frauds, Madueke, Eze now this guy. Please I beg
Tzolis is growing on me. Childhood Arsenal fan. It’s one of the benefits of winning. Seems like a good guy. Rogers can play multiple positions and is durable. Need those types when we have such a long, grueling season. Plus he’s Prem ready. Not a world beater, but a useful player.
Win now? We just won. We've been trying to win the past few years. We'll continue to try to win for the foreseeable years to come. We need to refresh talent and keep a good balance of prime age and quality youth. As for who I'd look to go after, I'd look at Bouaddi, Bergvall, or Zaire-Emery. All are young and are quality talents.
Morgan is 23. I don't love the signing but he still has another level to hit in theory. Barcola also 23 (and not a homegrown) and i'm not gonna throw away all the previous data based on 1 game but bradley looked pretty terrible vs Porro. Morgan i thought was the best english attacker and he wasn't playing in his preferred spots.
best attacker in a game with next to no attack. The reality is that outside of a beautiful cross for an assist he did absolutely nothing in that game. Would England have been better off with a more natural wing outlet? Would Kane have had a better day with a natural W runner on that side? No one knows but for me, pointing to Eng/Arg as an example of why he might work is a bad example because he literally had 1 moment and a whole lot of nothing.
Zaire-Emery is my absolute favorite option. He is far more versatile even within the MF. I just have a very hard time seeing him leave a rotational role at PSG for a rotational role at Arsenal.
There is a reason opposition fan sites and pundits are pissing themselves of the possibility of us getting Rogers. We need a big quality squad.. I'm excited. I am guessing, Arteta wants Rice, Odegaard to start once a week. And we have a much bigger, fresher squad than last season, especially if we are deep into the cups.
I think Rogers is more second striker than 10. As a 10 he is not a great creator for teammates, in league play he averaged 1.3 key passes per 90 minutes and had 6 assists in 3280 minutes. Odegaard averaged twice as many key passes per 90 minutes and had 6 assists in 1369 minutes. In fact, Rogers played about as many minutes as Eze and Odegaard’s combined minutes and together they combined for 2 fewer goals and 2 more assists. Since I suspect he would take major minutes away from both, what exactly does he add.
So having a guy who can turn and play that first ball is a weapon. Bruno is one of the best in the league at it. Worrying about age when Lille is asking for more for an 18 year old in a position we don’t really need is crazy to me. I wanted Bouddai, but when Bruno became available we gotta jump on that. Rodgers, shots from distance and a power player who can carry the ball. We don’t have that.
He not fast, but that shooting technique looks special. Again, we don’t have that. That sounds like some Project Youth stuff. We can’t tell Rice to sign for more years and then wait 3 years for these kids to get ready. We really need both, but we are trying win now and our guys are in their prime.
