Newcastle, understandably, is drawing a red line with regards to Bruno G. If they make it too expensive despite what the player wants, who do we buy?
Neither did Noni last season. At this point, you gotta trust the club. There is a logical reason presumably. Just because we can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. My guess? Random shot in the dark. He won't be a left winger.
Using Noni as an example is likely not the best idea. While he wasn't an abject failure, he has significant flaws and in general was a terrible buy for the money. Agree he likely doesn't play LW. Think he gets tried there and is ineffective. The problem then is where does he play? Who does he take minutes from? He makes the most sense to me as a 10/SS but I don't see him currently as a better option that MO or Eze based on his strengths/weaknesses. He could probably play left8 but only in certain situation because his defense isn't good enough for that role. To me the only way he makes if MO is pushing to leave and Rogers is Mikel's preferred replacement. Even then, I feel like there would be significantly better options.
I think it's pretty obvious that Rogers will play left wing and its unlikely they sell Eze or Odegaard this summer (next summer is a different story). They sold Trossard and they might sell Martinelli. I don't know what Trossard did that Rogers can't do.
Rodger’s hasn’t played lw for England and villa don’t play traditional wingers it’s more of a box and he has a free role I wouldn’t mind it if we didn’t have eze and ode
I don't have any major issues with Eze but I still think he was a bad purchase given the money. MO brings so many important traits to any side. This last season he had a down year likely due to his injuries. Looked to be back to form at the WC. My biggest concern is whether his body can hold up. I'd like to keep him but I could see the logic of moving him to a less physical league.
They carried 8 defenders last season and there is enough positional flexibility in this group that I don’t think they carry 9, especially when we know Myles can play left back in an emergency. So if White stays, they probably only add one.
I saw an article that suggested White was in training, but don’t remember where I saw it. I haven’t seen an update on Timber but he did come on for Mosquera in the Champions League final.
Both of them did miss the World Cup. Open question as to whether they're fit to start the season. Ditto Saliba. Given Calafiori's injury issues, possible we're running out a backline of MLS, Hincapie, Big Gabi, and Mosquera to start the season. Given the footedness of everyone involved, I think we'd be better off playing MLS at right back, but Arteta hasn't shown that he's willing to do that.
White and Calafiori have definitely been shown training. You haven't seen White's posts on Instagram? . How close he is to being able to play, I don't know.
I know you may be talking in a broader sense about their footballing skills, but as per Google AI (someone can validate its accuracy if you like), for 2025-26: Trossard: 50 games, 8 goals, 11 assists Rogers: 55 games, 14 goals, 12 assists So for me, Rogers needs to have similar numbers this season to make this swap look appealing. And of course fitness is key. And Rogers is spending more time working out in the hot hot USA this summer so it's all a bit of a crap shoot?
I might agree with you, as long as we're sure that Eze won't improve any more with us. But after just one season, it's slightly premature to be sure of that. I give him one more season then it may be decision time.
Rogers has played a ton of minutes without injury which either means he is very durable or he is due for a breakdown. Unfortunately no way to predict that.
White: I expect he'll be available for start of season, assuming no new reinjury/setback Timber: He's got one of those more mysterious, lack-of-info injuries, which spooks me a little, especially when my mind wanders back to Tomiyasu. Saliba: It's a pretty safe bet that we won't see him in Aug/Sep and it sounds like it might be several months after that, but we await real news!
We don’t need a cb white and Mosquera can cover Saliba Gabriel is backed up by Califiori Salmon is ear marked as a squad player as well most important is a lw and then a cm and potentially a rw madueke is not him and Saka is gonna need a rest unless Ethan can step up
Agree on CB personally..... a) Mos needs to be given his chance while Saliba is out b) We should have plenty of cover unless we expect Saliba to be physically washed Don't see us doing anything at RW. While I agree on Noni, I don't see us doing anything about it. My guess is we give Ethan/Max the opportunity to force him out and if they aren't up for the task then we deal with his replacement next summer at the earliest.
As you know there was literally a petition not to buy him. He exceeded those very low expectations. The fact that there is pretty much no talk of selling him speaks volumes about a player the fans revolted publicly about. There is more talk of Odegaard and Martinelli being sold by fans than Noni. He is not a world beater. Wasn't supposed to be. Was supposed to fail. Miserably and he didn't. In fact, he played so well he got an England call up for the WC and is being used ...a lot. He's a perfect example.
Yep..... and he's doing so well at the WC that the coach has now benched him for a right-footed AM in the semi-final match
Sorry dude, a little straw clutching. So? And we don't know if its tactical. Just the fact he's called up kills any debate on the general consensus he played way above what was expected from a player whose own fans did the unprecedented thing of passing around a petition.
Saw a report saying Newcastle kinda had to sell Gordon and / or Tonali for FFP rules but they don't have to sell Bruno G and that may be a red line. It's already devasting losing the aforementioned. The captain and the other half of hte midfield? And financialy they don't have to? Somehow I don't see this happening. Tielman could have been a back up signing but he's going to to the Mancs. Center mid isn't gonna make or break us. Especially when everyone is healthy. But we remain the same level while rivals are strengthening theirs. The left wing definitely needs sorting and a game changer for us. Lastly, Kofane please.
