To some degree I agree with you, I don't see Rogers as the ideal left wing. But you don’t spend up to €100m on a player because he’s flexible and can fill in at multiple positions. The €100m player is a starter. Whether Arteta uses a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, Rice starts as either an attacking or defensive midfielder and then with Eze, Merino, Odegaard, Myles, Zubimendi, Nwaneri returning from loan, and possibly another new midfielder, there is already a traffic jam of good players for the other two midfield position(s), so if Arsenal buy Rogers he is almost certainly written in as the starting new left wing.
Seeing some claims out of Spain that Atleti have informed Barca they are selling Alvarez to Arsenal. The supposed deal is Vik + 50m euro. The claims are coming from a Spanish journo named Jota Jordi.
Essentially, it’s five attacking player and five defensive players. It’s pretty balanced. But yes, the weakness will be on the wings. You need to have good cover with the defensive mids and to have defenders who are quick and can cover space. But every formation has strengths and weaknesses. At least, the threat is outside instead of centrally. I like that it allows us to have more creativity and control in the midfield, which we lacked last season. It puts Eze in a better position of not having to be the sole create, so he can get himself around the box to score, which is his strength. It allows for Kai to play deeper and for Gyok to be run behind (instead of build up the play), which is his strength. It naturally pushes Ode further to the field since you have Rice and Zubi behind to progress the ball. Hincapie can come in as a defender because he fits the mold as well (big, mobile, strong defensively). Timber and MLS can cover as holding midfielders. They fit the mold in a defensive midfield partnership. Martinelli for Gyok. Troussard for Eze. Dowman/Madueke for Saka. We still need another ten, but there are less holes in the team this way to me.
milan and Utd were both poor The personal listed means our left wing is slow and we have no threat Kai and gyokores do not work together a 433 is much better or 4231 for balance and width
Personally, I'm torn. Think such a swap would be a clear intent to move back to a false 9 setup. While that was successful in the past, my biggest concern with the F9 setup was the lack of presence in the box. When your ST is constantly dropping out to help buildup, there is no one in the box. Vik isn't perfect but he is always in the box. And while he is not great aerially, he is better than a 5'7" guy. Running a 5'7" ST takes away one scoring opportunity (crosses) from a parked team. Think if you go get Alvarez (and get rid of Vik) you really need a target man (Kai really isn't that guy) that can play situationally.
At 24 we probably aren’t going to see significant improvements to his game. He is exactly who he is going to be. I’d rather have Barcola on the left wing.
Those were examples showing it’s not a dead formation, Bigman. Inter won playing a 352. Atletico Madrid has been successful playing a 352. It all depends on personnel. Our left wing already is slow now. Troussard is the starter now. Kai and Gyok do not work if Kai has to be the link-up player and creator because he only has Rice and Zubi with him. That wouldn’t be his role in a 352. I think this suits his strengths better and allows them both to play. Maybe, generically, you can say a 433 is more balanced, but that means nothing. It depends on the players you have. The 433 really showed dysfunction in midfield last season, and we struggled to score in many games. It certainly didn't seem balanced to me.
This denies that story https://www.teamtalk.com/arsenal/ju...al-agreement-claims-swap-deal-viktor-gyokeres I'm not the biggest Gyokeres fan but at the same time, I would not like throwing that many resources at Alvarez.
that’s because odegaard Saka and Mari didn’t play much together they are the best triangle we have also trossard is not slow, but he provides width and comes inside and Califiori would have more freedom to join attacks as a left back rather than a Left cb in a 3 433 offers the most balance and works best with a false 9 working off the wide forwards and the cms
I don't know who you mean by Mari, but the fact that this is the best we have is an issue. Saka hasn't been great for two years. Same with Odegaard. Mari doesnt exist I think we have to freshen things up. I don’t have a lot of confidence in this triangle anymore. That’s what I’d do, but Arteta probably will stick to the same setup and hope that it works better next season.
I'd still like Alvarez but I prefer him at LW. There was rumor/wishful thinking from a couple months ago suggesting Marti + Jesus + Cash for Alvarez. While unrealistic, I would do that in a heartbeat. and I honestly think that deal could be good for Atleti as well.
We didn't score enough goals when needed last season (shout out to not choosing Sesko). Too often in the first half of the season corner goals saved us against sides we should be scoring on. My guess is Arteta is doing some tweaking towards more goals. Which may mean we change tactics. If that's the case then Rogers makes perfect sense . No matter what we have to trust Arteta (and Berta) since they've gotten right too often to doubt them now. This is, as far as I can tell, the only forum, Arsenal or otherwise that there is anyone that doesn't rate Rogers (or Tonali for that matter) near where the rest of the known universe does. Doesn't make the opinions wrong. I'm not a go with the crowd guy myself. I've been ratcheting up the bots to convince Arteta to buy Kofane from Leverkusen. A player tracked for sure doesn't have any "Welcome to [insert big club here] videos. All I know was watching Rogers against us and several other sides, it was clear he's special and I want him to with us. Prefer him over Tonali based on age (23 v 26) and upside Rogers will be better than Tonali at 26 I think. Lastly in defense of Arteta many if not all of you were upset at buying Noni and defensive players for positions we had covered. I was confused by it but as I said then I will say it now. Trust Arteta.
Three points: 1). There is a difference between not rating Rogers and rating another player higher. My first choice would be Yildiz, he’s a better dribbler and more creative than Rogers, but Juve quite rightly don’t want to sell him. My second choice would be Barcola and he looks to be available. 2) Comparing Rogers and Tonali is like comparing apples and oranges. They don’t occupy the same positions on the field. 3). I was upset by Noni and still am. Fans are down on Martinelli for dribbling into dead ends, Noni does it in spades. In addition, random fact, were you aware that two seasons ago Ethan, in fewer minutes, had one more goal and one more assist in the Premier League than Noni had this season?
But since Rogers is at WC'26 nothing will get completed anytime soon. It's gonna be one of those summers sadly.
Hmm... assuming Arteta's staff know all of this already, I wonder if he thinks he can improve Morgan, get more from him?
Yeah, I don't think anyone thought he'd be key in helping retain possession, ie., not giving up 70 percent possession to the likes of PSG. If they did, I'd suspect they've never seen him play.
