I am more convinced than ever that had the USWNT had Mallory Swanson at the 2023 WC the results would have been significantly different. Their defense (outstanding at WC) was even better in the Olympics with only 2 goals conceded in 6 games. Swanson was the factor that Alex Morgan was no longer able to provide at the 2023 WC team.
I would agree, except I think that the generational change had already occurred on the offense except that injuries knocked out Swanson and Meccario and the team had to rely on the old guard. IIRC, Swanson was the team's leading scorer before she was injured. I think that the next change will occur in the midfield. The defense is more settled and Dunn looks ageless at left back.
You of course must recognise that no one would call any of the Galaxy's defenders MLS 11 quality except possibly Miki Yamane whereas Hayes has the best female CB in the world plus three other defenders who are excellent national team quality.players. Not to mention a keeper who was rated as a 10 in the Olympic final.
I’m not following? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Hayes Edit: I get it - you are referring to her killer cb Naomi Girma.
If she was a male, Pep Guardiola would be in the process of buying her for $100 million. She was fantastic, and so was that 3 headed beast of an offense. Anytime there was a counter, you would feel the danger. Amazing what a talented coach can do to a team.
The Premier League is going to use an array of iPhones for VAR this season. https://www.wired.com/story/the-eng...-new-iphone-powered-offside-detection-system/
After LA scored today I almost posted St. Louis to win 2-1. They were far from identical games, but there were elements to each where the Galaxy result didn’t surprise me. Hell, their go ahead goal was a very similar to Newcastle’s first.
While, I haven't been a big fan of Alex Morgan as a USWNT player the last 2 years, I did watch with a heavy heart her last 13 minutes today. I was hoping that she would have scored on the penalty kick but it wasn't to be.
