Got me - but I didn't know whether or not to put "rumor" or "report" as the header.

But as pointed out by Sean... this corroborates the Ruiz to LA for Alrbight rumors.

Nothing says "family friendly league" like signing a coke-head who has been suspeneded more than once for substance abuse.

If Phil Anschutz allows an AEG team to sign this guy after all his right wing propaganda, he is a bigger hypocrite than Ted Dobson. OK, maybe not bigger than Dobson, but still a hypocrite.

I'm pretty sure Anschutz doesn't even know who he is.

Maybe not now, but he will soon. And I can't imagine ol' Right Wing Phil is gonna be too thrilled that a documented blow-freak like Abel Xavier is now on his payroll and on his most high-profile team.

Why does "family friendly" need to be a goal of the league? The focus shoubld be on the product on the field.

I mean dont get wrong, if it happens to end up being known for being exceptiopnally fan friendly, great! But it doesnt have to any more fan friendly than any other professional sport.

Do you really think Little Johnny's dad is going to stop showing up to games with his sons rec league, if a good player has had a run in with the law?
I think you need to pick and chose you battles. You are getting all worked up over nothing.

Deep six the political angle to you rant or I'm neg repping you. Not because I disagree, but because I got neg repped all day long for using the word Democrat in a sentence once. As I have been told, there is a politics forum. ;)

Calling Phil Anschutz right wing issn't political; it's a fact.

I'm not passing judgement on Phil's politics - I disagree with some of them and agree with some of them. (That happens when you're a moderate. ;) ) And, I'm not really anti Abel Xavier, either.

I don't think it's the greatest signing for MLS given that he's sucked at his last two stops. But I just think cocaine thing is not the kind of PR MLS needs or wants and I certainly don't think someone like Phil Anschutz is gonna be too thrilled, given his reputation for family-friendly entertainment away from soccer and support of conservative causes, that his most high-profile team has signed a guy who is most known in international soccer circles for being a coke-head.

If it comes down to my support of Uncle Phil- who single-handedly saved the league and has hundreds of millions invested- and you, a well-informed poster on BS with Phil issues.

Guess who I choose? No offense! :D

BTW- I hope they are paying Xavier too much. Every time I saw the Prem. highlights, he was getting torched (although he did have that nice header for a goal earlier in the year). He's lost at least a step, and he may have his issues in physical friendly MLS.

BTW- I can't wait to see a picture of former teammates Clint Mathis and Xavier together. They played for a short time in Hannover in 2004. Xavier was freakin' awful in that stint, and got dropped like a hot potato even quicker than Mathis!

If this guy is making more than 100,000 a year this is a horrible deal. (He probably is).

I did a quick search and I can't find any independent confirmation of this story. The premiershiplatest.com seems to deal in speculation heavily and doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence. It's also suprising that some guy named Niraj Prabhu in England picks this up before the writers actually covering the Gals. Almost every other player signing has been first mentioned by writers on this side of the pond.

Until I hear more, I'm callng this report a steaming pile of poo.

Edit: Saw the Sky Sports article now. The poo pile has decreased, but it still stinks.

Did not see that when I did my google news search. Thanks for the link.

Ruiz and Donovan in the attack with Beckham feeding them the ball...not too shabby. Now, how do they keep the 3 DP players with only 1 DP slot? I'm not sure who they would start at RB in absence of Albright. Has Quavas Kirk played there?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but signing Xavier as a RB is what allows them to trade Albright.

    Obviously not.

How else would you explain the John Ellinger hire?

Somehow, I doubt they would put a 34 y.o. as an outside back. That's a young man's position, especially in the 4-4-2 that Galaxy play where outside backs do get forward a lot (Jazic and Albright). Gals have an inexperienced guy playing alongside Tyrone Marshall as a CB, and I bet that's where they would use AX.

    Or...
Maybe Yallop is not happy with Vagenas, Harmse, or Sturgis as D mids. If they did sign AX, chances are a young promising player like Sturgis can also be a big piece of the puzzle to bring Ruiz to LA.
