I wondered for a bit how Bush's decision would have been altered -- especially as the coalition came apart -- if he wasn't concerned about reelection.

I kind of like one six year term. Or unlimited four year terms.

Who's the only President to serve more then 2 terms?

Democrats calling Republicans stupid is like the pot calling the kettle black, at the very least.

I can't stand for the most part both parties, but suggesting that Clinton is the best candidate that the Demos can come up with shows what poor shape the Demos are in with respect to leadership. Where are the Kennedy's when you need them?

It's all theoritical, but I don't think Bill boy would beat George at this point. May be in another year if the economy or the Iraq "project" goes bad. But not now.

Bring it on. Fat Boy would be trounced. The mere mention of his name these days provokes rolled eyes and chuckles.

    and the real winner is....

Regardless of what party you side on, right now would just look bad to repeal 22nd, i mean, the bush family is the closet thing we have to a royal family. It would really smack of too much elitism. None of the Bush brothers have ever had a real job, they have pretty much just enjoyed a life of money and prestige, like a prince. Giving them some sort of unlimited terms would take all the fun out of rigging an election or denouncing any one with another opinion at treasonious.....

Ian, who is rolling their eyes at no unemployment, peace, and no deficit...i never did.

I would like the rule to be that a President can only serve two consecutive terms, but no limit on the number of terms a person can serve. Just no more than two in a row.

I honestly don't see the problem in running more than twice, as long as people keep voting you in.

I completely agree. I think that's what is standard for governors.

I'll say this...Clinton v. Bush would be the most divisive election here since 1860. I mean, right now, you're talking about two incredibly polarizing figures. I don't think that would be good for the country.

I really don't have anything to back this up, but I for some reason keep thinking the 2 party system must have something to do with it all.

Help me out people, am I just going down a dead end? - my knowledge of US politics isn't all it could be.

"it's more like the party lines have blurred so much it practically doesn't matter"

i've heard that theory. it seems to be the popular one even though i don't buy it. kerry is a douchebag and tends to discredit it.

Dude, this amendment was proposed by Representative Jose Serrano, a very liberal Democrat in Congress.
