Just noticed the green rep dots visible again. Is there a reason we're doing this? Seemed like folks were behaving better when rep was invisible on posts. Folks didn't have much incentive to create rep threads or "clever" posts to try to attract rep points.
Noticed that myself. Also noticed in today's upgrade that the left hand column (big soccer shop, community, ads) is now too big for "My Big Soccer". You have to scroll the screen over to read/link to the threads you are subscribed to. Thx, Jay!
Plus the post count has replaced the team affiliation. I'd much rather know who someone lists as "their team" than the post count. And while I liked my green nipples as much as anyone, I agree that everyone seems better behaved.
Actually, disagree with the "their team" comment. I actually find sometimes its impossible to enter another team's forum w/o immediately getting shit upon. Then again, simple solution to that is to leave that field blank.
Or, you know, not have the words "DC United" in your avatar. Methinks it wasn't your "Team:" line that was giving you away.
Oh the irony, DC's forum wrote the book on that little piece of BS culture. Personally I like the rep displayed but maybe only to the paying contingent. Let the witty freeloaders not know how they truly appear to those who actually help contribute to the site in a way greater than genuine unsubstantiated opinion. Otherwise it really serves no purpose other than self affirmation when you browse your own myBigsoocer.
I'd prefer "club" over "rep nips," too. It's just more interesting to know where peoples' interests lie, than to know how 'popular' people are. I generally don't talk a lot of smack, I just like to know where people are coming from. (And goodness knows, I stay the heck OUT of club fora! ) I'm wondering why sigs have reverted back to a uniform-sized font? I preferred the smaller size. "Just my opinions." (TradeMark...probably)
At the same time, newbies and trolls were able to steer debate too easily. I can't count the times that I took the time to respond to ppl who later I realized were essentially newbies or trolls or were in red nipple territory. I think the "1 rep pt/poster and 2/mod" has kept the flame wars down.
i have to follow the crowd here. it did seem like people were better behaved. and rep seemed a lot simpler. there was no glory in giving or getting it. post count is pretty useless as well. at first i was sad to see it go, but now i really don't understand what it accomplishes. it doesn't change anything. it doesn't give you a window into the poster. it's just pointless. bring the teams back ... i do believe.
I half-believe that the change was because of the crap we're going through in MLS N&A. Waaay too many noobs or eurosnobs this month. I think the rep bars are Ok, but I'd rather see the post number go. It lets me know I spend too much time here.
If space is an issue, why not drop the number of posts and just use the user title. Make newbies < 200 posts or < 2 months as a member Junior member < 500 posts or 2 to 6 months as a member etc, etc.
You guys do realize that DC United fans have no say in the way the DC United moderators run our forum, right? The tone of the place is pretty much set by Knave.
Re seeing the post count: it's good for reminding people that they have a serious addiction! Not me, of course, but some of my best friends...
Now THAT makes sense! I haven't been there in....at least months. But I can imagine there's a lot of Beckham-related crap going on there.
I agree, and I would like to thank you for whispering, since I'm hung over. I'd also add that I hope the repping payload has stayed low and uniform (as opposed to having it scaled to the accumulated rep of a given poster, the way it originally was). I think that's much better than having to re-set it regularly.
I was relaying the sentiment I have gotten from other posters but thanks for proving my point. Immediately you keyed in on my team/status and came to a predrawn conclusion. You had no knowledge of me other than I was a DC mod and immediately condemned my post b/c of it.
No, I was pointing out that the DC mods have a lot to do with the club-bashing that you dislike. When you have mods in one forum that rule with an iron fist, the mods/users in other club forums are going to respond in kind.
