More importantly, the ability to scout NCAA players is almost done. The MLS combine in early January often features many D2/D3 coaches, and the NASL/USL combines follow shortly. The main reason to have someone in place is so they can have input on what to look for. It's better to have a coach with the players to play his system then to give a coach a bunch of players and make him work it out. At this point, any scouting is being done by whoever is left - Johnson, Bader?, Wellman?
Yup. But something from the team that suggested they were about to have an announcement seemed relevant too. Also, IMS says they'll announce next week that it will be Clarke.
Been sitting on this a few days but it sounds like the word is out now... It's going to be Colin Clarke. http://blogs.newsobserver.com/swakesports/clarke-agrees-to-contract-to-coach-railhawks
I wish the Railhawks & Clark success next season. On another note, did anyone catch the fact that Montreal has the MLS rights to Etienne Barbara and Brad Rusin? From MLSsoccer.com..."In other player news for the Impact: This report says Montreal are looking to acquire Canadian Patrice Bernier, who plays in Denmark and the club is also holding on to the rights of Carolina RailHawks players Etienne Barbara and Brad Rusin. (FRENCH)"
Thats crazy. I read last year that Chicago has Etienne Barbara's MLS rights. Maybe the are finite and expired. I did read that Montreal had some kinda of limited ability to sign any NASL/Div2 player they wanted. Maybe its a mixture of the two.
A proven coach with a long working relationship with our president. I like the appointment very much contrary to what PR fanboys have to say.
Based on his track record with the Islanders, I think that without Rennie for competition he'll be the best coach in the league. Not sure why PR gave him up, glad he's here now.
Enjoy the long ball, late subs and super defensive play. Sure hi'll probably get you a new trophy or two but to me it's not worth it. Now his ability to select players for me is his only rediming quality.
I like long balls, have no particular opinion on when you sub... but yeah, I'd love to see a more aggressive style.
Funny... I thought there was too much long ball play already. It seemed to me like that was usually the preferred way to get the ball to Etienne and Campos. I can't imagine it would get worse. Maybe my perspective on this is way off... I dunno.
Yeah, Rennie had his guys play a lot of long balls forward to his strikers. And I always find it exciting when players can make that work for them - not because I don't appreciate the tight control of the alternative, but because when you do either one well there's a sort of elegance to them both (and they're definitely different from each other).
