So there's all kinds of 70's and 80's nostalgia out there but I want to remember stuff that I actually remember. So here are my mid/early-90's pop culture memories: - Girl You Know It's True? No, I'm not a girl but yes, it is true that you boys were lip synching. - 3rd Bass. Now, they were some cool white boys. - Faith No More? That's too bad. I really liked that video with the fish. - America's favorite son was Mike Seaver, we all lusted after Kelly Kopowski or Kelli Bundy and ended up at Cheers at the end of the night. - Will Smith was the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and he introduced us to Speed Racer. - Parker Lewis Can't Lose. It was all about the synchronized Swatches. - LL is gonna knock you out. Mama said knock you out. - A Different World taught me that there are no white people at colleges. - M.C. Hammer didn't look silly at all. Okay, he did. - Guns 'N Roses. We all knew "Use Your Illusions 2" was way better than "Use Your Illusions 1". - Arnold was a tough guy. Even when he was telling us that it was not a tumor. - Arsenio. That was the place to be late night. - Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick. It was all downhill from there. - Speaking of which, Chris Berman was less annoying back then. - Simpsons. Who knew it would last so long?
Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's He wore a Speed Racer t-shirt in the Summertime video. I think this was before they were showing re-runs on TV, but I could be wrong.
Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's I watched Speed Racer when I was a little kid. That was a good 10-15 years before Will Smith's popularity.
I saw FNM and Helmet a few tours after "Epic" (the fish video song) and it was incredible. Their later material was much stronger.
Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's I always thought the pre-Mike Patton years were best...the original "We Care A Lot" was killer funk-metal.
Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's I was speaking purely in Patton-era terms as most folks didn't know there was a "pre-Patton era."
o, c'mon, padre! "Monty Python's Flying Circus." The CLASSIC 45!!! Simpsons takes the silver medal...and there's no shame in that!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's Well, I wasn't born 15 years before Fresh Prince came along. What I meant was that there was a lull in Speed Racer's popularity before it came back to Nickelodeon (or was it MTV?) and became a cult hit again. Will Smith was wearing the t-shirt before the cult hit phenomenon (I think). I did. I thought of this thread because I was at the gym today and MTV2 played Pearl Jam's "Alive", TLC's "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" and the aforementioned "Epic" by Faith No More. We also can't forget the following one hit wonders: EMF, KLF, C&C Music Factory (well, more or less one hit), Jesus Jones, Positive K, Enigma, Black Box and Sinead O'Connor.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's They burned 1 million pounds. How fooking rock n' roll is that?
ah...what a time, you could dress like a bum and still be "dressed up" for the friday/saturday night parties hail grunge for that simple fact.
--3rd Bass? They were okay. Not avatar worthy or anything. --No white people? Where do you think I first fell in love with Marisa Tomei? And then the pre-med chick's white cousin came to school. So there are plenty of white people enjoying a higher education.
Then there was this rapper named Vanilla Ice... I remember in a 3rd Bass video, Henry Rollins dressed up as Vanilla Ice and 3rd Bass beat him up.
- Silly me. But then the white people going to college thing got ridiculous with Saved By The Bell: College Years and all the 90210 kids going to college. Speaking of 90210, sideburns did not exist before Jason Priestly and Luke Perry. Trust me on this. I didn't know that was Henry Rollins. The idea of anyone beating up Heny Rollins is highly amusing.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's They were hardly one hit wonders in the UK - six huge hits in 18 months and a Brit award for best band in 92 when they also quit at the award ceremony whilst performing a thrash metal version of 3am Eternal and shooting blanks at the audience - http://www.lysator.liu.se/~johol/KLF/BritAwards1992.html
remember this freak???? INFORMER! you my dadadf awfawoeifj asdfa asd asdretgt jlhjhh r rytj jlk da all the way..... i lick your boom boom down
Yup. As soon as I saw the movie "Singles" I immediately went into the wannabe grunge phase. Damn that was stupid. Anyone remember the short lived Fox show "Class of 1994" or something like that? It was a drama showing a group of college freshman going to some small private college. It had the typical stereotypes...the slut (that redhead was hot!!!), the nerd boy, the black dude from the ghetto trying to make his life better, the introspective hunk, the spoiled rich kid who drank alot. I LOVED THAT SHOW!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's Can't agree with you on Black Box. They put out one of the best dance CD's of all time called "Dreamland". Remember these?: I Don't Know Anybody Else Ride on Time Strike It Up Everybody Everybody
what is the MATTER with you?!?!? bridget fonda has NEVER been more gorgeous!!! i'm with aimer, though; the less attention i have to pay to what i'm wearing, the better (which is NOT to imply that i don't pay attention to hygiene, mind you!). i can still remember that four-week period, back in 1984, when the boss put out "Born in the USA," and suddenly it was cool to wear jeans and a tee-shirt. i was trendy without even trying...and i was 17 years old. GAWD, what a pathetic life! "Right Said Fred." you are an evil human, nico! but you do point out something that grunge DID save us from!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Remember the mid/early-90's I only remember Strike It Up and Everybody Everybody. I don't think the other two were mainstream hits, but my memory's hazy. "I'm too sexy for this shirt, so sexy it hurts."
Ah, such happy memories of the early 90's. In the UK they did Rave mixes of Childrens TV themetunes (Magic Roundabout,Sesame Street,Trumpton) and also GameBoy music (Tetris and SuperMarioLand). God, I wish I could turn back the clock.
