Another strawman. Nice. "no starting point". Yeah, that's what I said. Not to mention that the analogy is wrong because a) neither of them believe in those things as a matter of divine faith, b) the combination there is environmentalism. If this was a forum about morals its one thing. But that would be so vague it'd be useless. So religion came in. Which makes this different entirely. But, of course, I find the concept of this forum vague and counterproductive. As for my "thick" statement - just think about this. Aside from chad's point, why would theist philosophers discussing God when talking about morals mean there must be a link? Do all Christian scientists prior to the Englightenment saying the sun revolves around the earth mean there is a link there? Just because they believe something does not mean a link exists.

Hey, so that's where the Rolling Stones got their album title from! For all of Jagger's inane lyrics I always suspected he was secretly a pedant.
I understand rooting a morality in one's religious beliefs. And I understand claiming that morality can be completely unconnected to any religion. But spirituality ... wtf is that? THAT I've never understood.
My post was not to say that I favor the parring but instead that I feel there is a need for a place on this board for philosophical discussions and that it should not be barred from this forum when "Morals" is in the title. While the parring is not ideal it's better than nothing and when discussing morals I wouldn't want to be forced to tie it to religion.
What was wrong with the Politics boards for that? So......I'm confused. Are you in favor of a morals+religion forum or not?
Matt in the Hat, Karl K, the overall politics board atmosphere. I'm in favor of a morals forum, maybe even an amoral or unmoral one.
How about a forum entitled "Atheism, Materialism, and Immorality?" How would everybody feel about that? See what chad and nicephoras are getting at?
He looks good in comparison to the poster I listed after him but he's not my ideal mod for a philosophy forum.
If what they want is a philosophy forum, they shouldn't put it in with religion, because, well, they are fundamentally different.
And suddenly, young chad's dream of one day moderating his very own BigSoccer forum seems somehow more attainable.
