Bout time Dempsey found the back of the net. Three points are good enough to keep McBride and Boca in Prem for at least another year. Also Spector is safe has West Ham is on fire. Gibbs is toast, but he's hurt all the time anyway.

    Congrats to Clint

Re: Deuce scores! Three Yanks to stay in Prem!

Yep, looks like Wigan, Charlton, and Watford are the three going down. Though if Wigan wins next week, West Ham can still go down on goal differential. Sheffield United is officially safe.

Obvious spoilers in the original title, so I altered it a bit. :)

Also, feel free to use the "result" tags, folks, out of courtesy for those who are taping or TIVO'ing the games for later viewing...

sheffield uniteds not officially safe. if wigan winds next weekend, and Charlton win out, charlton finishes with 39. If West Ham at least ties Man U, west Ham has 39. Sheffield united and Wigan would have 38. We've delved into longshot territory for Charlton but if they take it to Tottenham this week thats what ill be pulling for!

You're not taking into account goal differential at all. Sheffield United is, at the moment -20. West Ham is at -25, Wigan is at -23, and Charlton is at -24. So it's not just "a win." All three teams would have to win in blowouts.

Though as I saw this, Aston Villa just scored again so Sheffield United is at -21. Oops.

It is also quite possible that relegation will be a bit up in the air until after the season is over. The law suit that the teams are sure to file may muck things up.

Personally, I think West Ham should get docked points (the decision not to sounded ominously like they were scared... almost like a ref who doesn't want to award a PK at the end of the game for an obvious foul) but I think in the end the courts will decide they don't have room to force the league to do so.

Its even worse that Tevez has been a big part of the difference.

    Anywho... we'll see what happens.

i understand that. But if Charlton or West Ham have a goal differential of -187 and have 39 points overall, and Sheffield United and Wigan have goal differentials of +467 but only have 38 points total, then GD is a moot point.

If its down to goal differential then only one has a chance to stay up. Charlton and/or West Ham can only hope to beat them strictly on overall points IMO. Charlton needs all six poits though. West Ham may only need a tie...if that.

Got this from Ultra Peanut on the NE Revs board. Send him your congrats if possible. Dempsey's finish was nice and clinical, but his initial pass was certainly better...he put that ball on a wire! Nice commentary on this clip.

Turn off your firewall or get rid of your Mac and buy a PC..:D

Oh.. BTW.. It's just Flash and not video anyway ..
If you have Flash 9, at least, no reason it shouldn't work..May even work with older flash.

This will tell you if you have a working Flash installed..

question: what good does it to have the [R] there if you give away the result of the thread in the title?

Nice goal by Dempsey. Hopefully it's the first of many.

Nice give-and-go. All young and aspiring basketball and soccer players should watch that goal in order to learn that once you pass the ball, you've still gotta keep moving.

Great initial pass, and way to be there to get it back.

Not even close. Unless Charlton wins vs Spurs tomorrow and then wins at Anfield next saturday they are relegated along with Watford. Wigan would then only have to win 1-0 at Sheffield United next sat. to stay up and send Sheff. Utd. down....you are forgetting that a 1 goal swing for Wigan is actually a 2 goal swing as Sheff Utd would be the team conceeding the goal Wigan scored.

    Dempsey's first Premiership goal {R}

American Clint Dempsey came on as a 2nd half sub against a new-look Liverpool side to score the game-winner for Fulham, going a long way towards saving them from relegation.

Dempsey, who has yet to gain a start for the Fulham side, was subbed in at the 53rd minute, making an instant impact on the game. His fresh legs and vision paid off in the 69th minute, when Dempsey picked up a loose ball and dribbled straight at the defenders, then sprung a man outside. Running into the box, he was on the receiving end of the cross in a beautiful give-and-go in heavy traffic, hammering home past the keeper for what turned out to be the game-winning score, and might be enough to keep them from relegation.

    Kudos, Deuce.
