Relationship between Officiating & Scoring

    On the thread discussing the scoring champion having only 30 points... someone made the point that Officiating was a culprit for lower scoring.

    Now, I'm sure Kenntomasch (or a few others) could supply stats about scoring in the MLS and how it is pretty close to other established leagues - meaning overall goals are about the same, they just aren't as concentrated in a few scorers in the MLS.

    However, I do believe Officiating can definitely affect the "pace" of the game... Is it just me, or has anyone else felt like the officiating in the MLS seems (at times) to allow a lot of physical play through that slows the game down?

    For what it's worth, you definitely see this in Hockey (NHL vs. International hockey like the Olympics/World Champs)... hence, the NHL is trying to clamp down on it to make the game more entertaining and reward the skill players over the goons.
