I was thinking, 4 competitive games,12 goals scored, 4 conceded and 3 wins,1 defeat the stats don't lie (bury this thread if he gets the sack)
Don't buy into what the media says. After ONE game in the campionato, where we were missing some crucial players and it was our FIRST GAME, they're talking about him getting sacked... Give Grampa Reja a break!
I must say, he has won me over (so far), last season there was a spell where he was looking very close to the sack but he pulled through it and look where we are, he clearly has the backing of the players and club I was guilty of some of the grief towards him but pressure on affects those who are not good at the job they are doing and he has passed the tests in his career ar Napoli (so far)
his squad rotations freaking kill me. Cupi played alright yesterday so kudos to him. But Grava? He has never played Serie A football in his 16 year career and Reja not only starts him but gives him the captain's armband. Then he gives Savini another runout versus Rullo. Savini played better than he did against Cagliari but that's damning with faint praise because he was brutal in that first match. I'm convinced Edy is psychotic. Let's see how far he can take this squad but color me skeptical.
im with joe .. reja got lucky that grava didnt f up too bad. Who pulls a foward for a foward when you're up 4-0 ... he won't last.
I agree with Joe, sometimes his first team selections really confuse the shit out of me, but there seems to be some method to his madness. Last year everyone was calling for his head, and Napoli finished second. In my opinion, that was the best possible result we could have achieved. We'll know more or less in November how good Napoli is. In the meantime we're just going to have to trust him
the slate of matches coming in early october will tell the tale. any manager alive would have their mettle tested against this series of matches: Sept 30 Genoa (home) Oct 7 Inter (away) Oct 21 Roma (away) Oct 28 Juventus (home) Oct 31 Fiorentina (away) Palermo two weeks later in Sicily I am really dreading that stretch right there. If Reja can come out of that stretch without us being in relegation zone then he may crazy, but he's got something going for him.
I think we're in an experimentation phase still, considering 3 new players arrived not too long ago. I think he's the type of manager who chooses form during practice than consistency, hence his rotation scheme. It might even work considering teams will not know who they need to prepare for...IDK, I say he might be on to something or he was really lucky in the last one. I think the picture will be clearer after our next game. Who's on International duty for this weekend? I really don't like these Int friendlies anymore!
No friendlies .. Italy is playing for the Eurocup qualifiers and as for the south american teams i'm not sure what they are playing for. But I know what you mean. Everyone wants thier teams players to be international starts but we hate when they get called away during the season and lose time/risk getting injured.
south american squads are playing their last friendlies before they begin qualifying for the world cup. tell me why conmebol, who only has 10 teams in the region, needs to start WC qualifying 3 years before the tourny? christ. in any case maldonado got called up by paraguay (he'll be in South America and Central America), Gargano got called up by Uruguay (he'll in South Africa), Hamsik for Slovakia and Garics for Austria. Domizzi deserves a freaking call up by the way.
All we can do is be happy we'll be able to watch our boys, and know they're road warriors(one of the better road records last season in Serie B, Udine this year too). If we beat Samp, teams are going to watch us closer.
Not from me ... not when he continues to bench Calaio, Bogliacino, Rullo, Garics, Maldonado and DallaBona. I know he's winning without them but it's only been two games and I'm sure we would have won them with these guys too.
As Reja said, the past belongs to the past. He is greatfull to players such as Calaiò, Dalla Bona, Bogliacino, etc. but unfortunatley, for them, he needs to think about the future, and as of now the new players, and results I add, are the future. I also believe that in a competitive squad all of the players are important, let's not forget that other team have national team players on the bench, see Roma.
