    MVP: Eddie Pope

Surprise of the season (player or other): Ricardo Clark (yes, we knew he'd be good, but he's better than we expected).

Disappointment of the season (player or other): Jaime Moreno, hands down.

Game of the season (a few details): July 5th at DC United. 3-2 win in overtime.

(folks, the SJ game was 4-4, not 5-5, and let's not forget we blew 2 leads in that game).

Goal of the season (a few details): Woly-stuta, Saturday, September 20th at home to Columbus. After a quite underwhelming 90 minutes, a foul is awarded at midfield in the second overtime of a 0-0 game. Amado Guevara hits a 50 yard free kick that is run onto by John Wolyniec, a journey man striker with a knack for late game heroics (this year anyway). Woly- in a sprint- swings his left foot wildy and crushes a shot, full volley, across the face of goal and into the upper 90 of the net, scoring an OT winner. Simply amazing.

Honorable mention: Eddie Gaven's goal vs. DC, a 3-2 OT win on the road, down a man for 60 minutes, winning goal scored by a 16 year old rookie subbed into the game as a goalie.

Young player to watch: Eddie Gaven

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc):

Game: beating DC in the Open Cup Semis

Moment: saying goodbye to Timmy, July 12th at New Enlgand

Chant: Signing "Your bishop smokes boys" in Boston

Incident: Being led out to the parking lot under police escort at RFK, because their fans are so "hard".

Surprise of the season (player or other): The overall blandness/lack of cutting edge. We all knew that Bradley's system would be strong on organization. But I don't think anyone would have thought he'd be unable to get more out of this team vis-a-vis goal scoring. The USOC final attendance is very close second-I thought our core fanbase would have been far more motivated to come out with the first trophy in club history on the line.

Disappointment of the season (player or other): Javier Moreno. Had he stayed healthy and productive, I think we'd be feeling different today. I think it's fair to say we looked at this moment at the start of the first match :

and thought, "yeah, this might not be so bad."

Game of the season (a few details): USOC Semi-Final. Amado Guevara's brace puts us in the final.

Goal of the season (a few details): Wolyniec goal vs Crew.

Young player to watch: Ricardo Clark

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc): Youth, youth, and a lost chance for a trophy.

    MVP: Pope...no question

Surprise of the season (player or other): Woly - Very smart player who can get the job done, much more than I had thought.

Disappointment of the season (player or other):Moreno...Mathis - Other than the first 7 games, he's been very dull(it's not just his fault though aka Gameplan)

Game of the season (a few details): 3-2 Win at DC. Incredible Heat. Incredible saves by Tim Howard. Moreno scores on old team. Eddie Gaven goes into net(la Norte looking up at us was funny as heck)...Then Gaven comes out, and scores a great goal on a 50 yard ball from Guevara!
Great game...so glad i was there.

Goal of the season (a few details):Woly's goal VS columbus. Mind-boggling. I just stood there with my hands on my head, and my jaw stuck open.

Young player to watch: Gaven + Clark

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc):

Hate to say it, but - - The way we ended our season. But it should be the way the team played, with a bunch of youngsters who didn't know that they should be losing. They played with heart, and a lot of passion - and they were an absolute pleasure to watch from that point on.

Also, sending Timmy off for his last game is something i will always remember. Not to mention seeing him again a month later with Man U.

best chant: "i bought a soda from your keeper" at the Open Cup semi-final after Doug Warren was ejected and the 3rd stringer came on.
made no sense, it was hilarious.

MVP: Eddie Pope, no question about it.

Disappointment: Galvan and Forchetti. When they were signed there was hope that Bradley had added some flair and major skill, instead the team got a pair of Argentine A-leaguers. I'd vote Jaime but he was hurt.

Game of the season: MetroStars vs. Columbus, Round of 16 U.S. Open Cup. Sure, beating D.C. with Gaven's winner was memorable but when the team came back from 3-1 down to knock of the defending cup holders that was special.

Goal of the season (a few details): Woly vs. Crew. Best goal in club history and best in MLS this year.

Young player to watch: Eddie Gaven. Bonafide star of the future who will be on the Germany 2006 squad.

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc). The best draft in league history. Clark, Magee, Gaven, Regan. Five years from now people will be in total awe at how Bob Bradley scored all that talent in one draft.

Surprise-Gotta be either Walker or Woly.
Disapointment: Kenny Arena. We knew he wasn't good, so why did he keep starting?
Great game: vs. San Jose, 4-4, only one I got to see in person.

MVP: Pope (his injury earlier in the season really impacted the team)

Surprise of the season: How well Walker filled in when Timmy left.

Disappointment of the season: The lack scoring punch. Not including the USOC here are the last four years of Goals per Game:
    2003: 1.33
    2002: 1.46
    2001: 1.46
    2000: 2
He's not scoring as often but we can't blame it all on Mathis.

Game of the season (a few details): Beating DC 3-2 a man down on Gaven's OT game-winner

Goal of the season (a few details): Woly from Guevara.

Young player to watch: Gaven, Clark

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc): Making our first final ever. Always need a positive spin on the season.

Gotta go with Woly's goal, too.

    Young player - Eddie Gaven

Proud moment - watching the Man U v Scottland game (11/4) and hearing Tommy Smith talk about when he used to cover Metro games for MSG. He went on about Timmy's work ethic, being a fan favorite, superior ability. Then said how well he as done with Man U - how the fans have come to really like him, how the players repsect and listen as he sets his walls...and all of this "without any swagger".

Though we miss Timmy, seeing a Metro signed to the EPL and to Man U, wow! And to see him do so well, he got the start very quickly and has kept it. And to echo Mr. Smith's "Without any swagger"...in light of all of Clint's recent yapping..... well, you just feel great for the guy, proud of how well he shows for all of us MLS bred yanks. It's a landmark achievement for Metro.

Yeah, put some Metro pride in that article.
Red and Black Pride crosses the Pond - there's your lead, kid - run with it!

Surprise of the season (player or other): I'd have to say either John Wolyniec or Mark Lisi. One was in the A-league last season and the other was on many fans cut list after last season.

Disappointment of the season (player or other): Moreno after all of the pre-season hype, or Digimarino. I really thought that Digi would be a fixture on that left side, but he's very inconsistant.

Game of the season (a few details): The match against NE where they came from 3-0 back in Timmy's last game.

Goal of the season (a few details): Wolyniec-Crew. That's all there is to say.

Young player to watch: Gaven and Clark.

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc): Tim Howard going to and starting for Manchester United.
