I’m putting together an MLS Regular- Season Review for a soccer magazine and I wanted to get the supporters’ opinions about the Galaxy in 2003. I would love it if some folks could answer the questions below. Thanks So Much!

    MVP: Co MVP’s Harman/Ruiz

Surprise of the year: That we made the playoffs without winning a single road game and in fact, could win the MLS Cup by only winning one game away from the HDC all year (Thank you Dallas!).

Disappointment: That Sigi “boreball” Schmid is still our coach and that the MLS playoff format is giving us a chance. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m cheering for the Galaxy to win it all but it’ll be sort of hollow compared to last year. No team that wins 9games all year should even be in the playoffs.

Game of season: The 3-0 drubbing of the Smurfs a few weeks back. Gave us momentum heading into the playoffs.

Goal of the year: Do you really have to ask? Ruiz’s bicycle kick.

    Young player to watch: Torres

2003 will be remembered for: Ask me in a few weeks…for the regular season though, simply put, how bad it was.

BTW, what mag are you writing for?

    Biggest diappointments:

Bo did not materially upgrade our defense and we can't seem to find a way to use Lalas productively.

Deterioration in the play of Simon Elliot (although he is threateneing to redeem himself in the playoffs).

Inability to protect one goal leads. Oh how thin the line was between this mediocre year and a really good record. Another disappointment of the same nature: "providing" Kevin Hartman with the "chance" to lead the league in saves.

It's a toss up between Moreno and Torres. I'll go with Torres.
Hong. Ticket prices and crap concession service at the HDC come a close second
Beating the Smurfs 3-0 a few weeks ago at the HDC
    Fish's Bike
Torres, Moreno and Memo. You chose the order.
The worst regular season in G history....oh yeah, I almost forgot. We have a new stadium. :)

    MVP: El Gato. Hands down

Surprise of the season (player or other): poor play in the midfield

Disappointment of the season (player or other): Korean fan not coming in droves to watch Hong

Game of the season (a few details): The HDC opener. Our first win, and a commanding performance that reminded everyone who the champions still are. Close runner-up: the 3-0 drubbing of that team up there

Goal of the season (a few details): Fish. Bike. Money.

Young player to watch: whoever Sigi decides to give Cien's spot to.

2003 will be remembered for . . . (game, moment, chant, incident etc): Didn't we get a new stadium or something?

    MVP: Hartman

Surprise: I'm still shocked that we haven't wona road game yet. This team is better than that.

Disappointment: Tie between the non-support of Bo by the Korean community and the non-production of our midfield.

Game of the Year: Home opener at the HDC. A dream come for this native Angelino.

Goal of the Season: Ruiz on his bike, from Cobi

    Young Player to Watch: Torres

2003 will be remembered for: Defending the Cup after our horrid start and record for road futility.

MVP: Hartman, hands down. Was worth more points than anyone else. Should be MLS Keeper OTY, but will lose out to Onstad because he played for a better (regular season) team and didn't face the fire that Gato did.

Surprise: The poor overall play, despite probably have a stronger roster than last year.

Disappointment (tie): The poor midfield play (including no service to the forwards) and Hong. Bo was ok, but nothing special at all for a guy who was supposedly the 3rd best player of the World Cup. IMHO, got burned too much (i.e. DMB), got caught out of position, and was too passive for a sweeper.

Game of the Season: 3-0 vs. Smurfs in the second to last game. If the G's make a run through the playoffs, this game will be looked at as the turning point.

Goal: It's unanamous...Fish on his bike.

Young Player: Moreno - won't be a star, but has worked very well with Fish. Tough, works hard, and understands his role playing next to Carlos.

Surprise of the season: Chris Albright's "breakout" game at Colorado (2 goals)

Disappointment of the season: Hong Myung-Bo and the droves of Korean fans the FO was pandering to.

Game of the season: The 3-0 smashing of the Quakes. It certainly gave us momentum for the playoffs.

Goal of the season: Chris Albright's weave to score his first goal in the season against Colorado

Young player to watch: Arturo Torres

2003 will be remembered for: the Galaxy making the playoffs despite winning only 9 games and no road wins.
