Apparently DC United has been "approached" about David Regis. Assuming we don't sign Zatonica, we still have the 18th slot open, and we still need to replace Burciaga. Assuming he fits in our cap, would we be interested in him? While he's no longer world class, I'm pretty sure he'd be fine for MLS.
I would pass on any player with heavily declining talents. MLS is of a better quality than the standard in the late 90's. The best reflection of the difference is the declining ability for foreign based players in decline to come into the US and put up stats. KC's achilles seems to be defense, so if a quality defender out of contract comes available, I hope KC would jump at it.
I'd vote no on Regis. At times he seemed to have the same lack of hustle that we see in Fabrro. He's a great player, I just dont want to be another of those teams thats goes out and gets an old washed up player. That said, the organization should be out there searching for a defender. We've got two spots open on the roster, and with each passing game run the serious risk of having to play Brunt.
I'd take him, as long as he's under 32. I'm not sure of his age. I'm also assuming he has now mastered the English language. James
Regis was apparently a solid defender when he played in the middle in the French First Division. His downfall for the national team was goof ups while being heavily pressured playing on the left. Most MLS teams don't play a high pressure game and he wouldn't be playing there. He would fit well in Burciaga's old spot, left side central defense. Plus, this injury Talley is carrying could be the type that bothers him throughout the year. I don't know about salary though, and I'm not sure what the intangibles of having him would be.
