David back from the dead. http://www.sports.fr/fr/football/2003/21/direct4.html Auxerre up early, 1-0.
how is regis doing? as much hatred as he got before the world cup i still like the guy, i was watching the usa v. mexico match last night and seeing him as the first individual off the bench greeting donovan after his goal...he was part of the team despite us all cracking on him for not being a 'real' american, whatever the hell that is. i can only hope he is doing well...
I kind of felt sorry for him being the outsider, who was suddenly on the end of the bench for the WC, but his importance to the team was nearly realised. If you remember all the accumulated yellows from the Mex and Germany games(Berhalter, Hejduk,Lewis,Mastro, IIRC), and injuries(Agoos,Cherundolo), I think we would have seen a lot of Regis had we been able to pull out the Germany game.
Regis rates a 5 by L'Equip . S. CASSARD 4.5 F. DANJOU (c) 6 M. MENIRI 6 D. REGIS 5 M. BRADJA 5 O. THOMAS 5 (G. AMZINE 58e) D. LINARES 5.5 (B. NIVET 58e) D. HAMED 5 R. SAÏFI 4.5 K. ZIANI 5 (N. AKROUR 81e) N. GOUSSE 5
Well, after being in the doghouse in Metz in the first half of the 2000-2001 season he came back to play probably his best soccer since his Bundesliga days. Maybe we'll see something similar here.
Regis is a very talented player, perhaps one of the most talented on the US team in Korea. However, for whatever reason, he lost his concentration and intensity that was present in France '98. You'd have to say he was one of the better players in France '98, but age does take its toll.
