Metz 2 plays in Group B of the CFA, the French fourth division. They lost their season opener last weekend 4-3 against Vesoul. Here's a short article: http://www.lepays.net/jdj/02/08/12/SP/article_28.html If he did play, he didn't score...haven't been able to find lineups.
Found the Metz 2 season schedule, but no other info on this page yet. http://members.aol.com/allezmessins/cfa.htm Other pages with not much more info: http://www.pagesdefoot.com/cfab1france.htm http://www.fff.fr/ I did happen to notice the table, though, which made me do a double take. They use a 4-2-1 point system. So you get a point just for showing up.
Gooch can't play because one of the players they had to unload after relegation can't find a new club. Since this player is a non-EU citizen, he takes a spot away from Onyewu. Once he leaves, the spot should open up for Onyewu.
Apparently, this player "Tressor Moreno" left... "Oguchi Onyewu will finally be able to play soon with FC Metz. The departure of Tressor Moreno in Medellin released a place of extra-non EU player. Onyewu could even be present in the Lorraine match as replacement in Toulouse Saturday. (which he didn't play)" Aug 13 http://www.pagesdefoot.com/metzl.htm http://www.fcmetz.com/Multimedia/Images/photo_off.jpg 2nd row ... Center ...you'll see Ougchi
Buff doesn't believe my source, but I can tell you why Gooch isn't playing either for the reserves or in D2 Metz has been put under 'recruitment control' which prevents them from signing any new player without unloading the contract of another. Onyewu took his time signing a contract and by the time he did, Metz was relegated and under recruitment control. The DNCG (direction national de control de gestion) has to ratify every new contract and won't ratify Onyewu's. Marseille is under the same restrictions, so it is not just for those in D2. It doesn't have anything to do with an EU spot, because Regis wouldn't have been a non EU player anyway. Look for Onyewu to start soon.
