I've heard nothing from Republicans decrying socialism when speaking of the 10% government share of Intel. Not even a peep from the George Will types. Socialism is obviously okay as long as it is national socialism.

Subsequent to the award many Americans now consider that Obama did not deserve it in the light of following events. Opponents of the award cite the expansion of the War on Terror and the large increase in the number of drone strikes carried out under Obama, specifically in Pakistan. To be fair, Obama did not go looking for the Nobel Prize, and this is more about the Nobel committee getting it wrong. Trump is looking for the prize, and they are likely unwilling to give it to him, not just for what he said, but for his actions (sending the military into cities/civilian areas), but because he is President and will likely use violence somewhere to "defend" the US.
The Trump Admin has confirmed this is just step 1. They planning taking financial stakes is multiple more companies. For all my concern in January, this is not something I had on my bingo card at all.

As a foreigner, this is quite something watching the US legitimately death spiral into an authoritarian regime. I still don't understand why so many just seem cool with this. The man is literally and openly talking about "some" in the US want a dictator. All while the right wing ecosphere is saying dictatorshio is inevitable and it's better a "Republican" dictator than a socialist one (and yes, he's not a Republican).
The left is certainly not cool with this. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party is a complete shambles and unable to mount any real opposition beyond Gavin Newsom trolling the orange shitbag in all caps on social media.
