I caught somebody yesterday talking about this, interest rates. What he is doing is actually going to raise moderate to long term interest rates because:
If he is able to replace Powell with his guy, that will be a coupling with the White House (Trump) demands. Those demands are mostly to drop interest rates.
And he uses tariffs as a weapon (as opposed to a tool) in diplomacy.
Combined with other things (like the stagnant job growth), this is making the bond market increase their rates (IOW, the demand is for higher interest rates), which increases longer term interest rates. It jumped from 4.14 on Jan 16 to 4.28 at market open today. That is a huge increase in a short time.

 

Which one? The 2 hour one yesterday to the press corps, or the 70 minute on today at Davos? You know, the one where he said:

“But equally importantly, we’re cracking down on more than $19 billion in fraud that was stolen by Somalian bandits,” Trump said, referring to ongoing fraud investigations in Minnesota that have focused on members of the diaspora. “Can you believe that— Somalia? They turned out to be higher IQ than we thought.”​

Yes! It's only 2 seconds ago Kevin Roberts and Heritage had a staff rebellion over Tucker and his platforming of jew hate. Then Shapiro tried to establish a red line over Candace Owens wild antisemitism only for the likes of JD Vance and Megyn R Kelly to announce their weren't going to be any purity tests.

I think the reason is Vance simply calculated there are too many of these neo nazis in his base and zoomercon staffer set now. He needs them to become president. Zoomercons are seen as the future of the 'movement'

President Donald Trump sued JPMorgan Chase and its CEO, Jamie Dimon, on Thursday for closing his and related entities’ accounts in early 2021 after decades of being customers of the bank, allegedly for political reasons.

The closures came on the heels of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol, and the president exiting the White House later that same month after his electoral loss to former President Joe Biden was confirmed.

Trump and the other plaintiffs in the case are seeking at least $5 billion in civil damages.

“Plaintiffs are confident that JPMC’s unilateral decision came about as a result of political and social motivations, and JPMC’s unsubstantiated, ‘woke’ beliefs that it needed to distance itself from President Trump and his conservative political views,” the lawsuit alleges.

“In essence, JPMC debanked Plaintiffs’ Accounts because it believed that the political tide at the moment favored doing so,” says the suit, which was filed in state court in Miami-Dade County, Florida.​

Okay, now that I'm done laughing, was listening to Lawfare last night and they were talking about Lindsey the Insurance Lawyer's court filing and how unprofessional it was. And one of them pointed out that it was not really targeted at the judge, but targeted at Trump. Because it is always all about Trump, all the time. Nothing different with this lawsuit.

SALT LAKE CITY — Private citizens could be granted authority to seize property from drug cartels under a constitutional provision not used in more than 200 years, thanks to a new bill introduced Thursday by Utah Sen. Mike Lee.

The bill would authorize the president to commission privateers to seize the property of cartels or other groups responsible for an act of aggression against the United States. Though not issued by the U.S. government since the War of 1812, letters of marque allow private individuals or companies to "outfit private warships for the purposes of sinking or capturing vessels belonging to enemy nations," according to Cornell University's Legal Information Institute.

"The Constitution provides for letters of marque and reprisal as a tool against the enemies of the United States," Lee said Thursday. "Cartels have replaced corsairs in the modern era, but we can still give private American citizens and their businesses a stake in the fight against these murderous foreign criminals. The Cartel Marque and Reprisal Reauthorization Act will revive this historic practice to defend our shores and seize cartel assets."​
