Actually, I think I'm focusing on the important thing. This is bigger than race and roles. This idealized fantasy exists in a pseudo-reality where accurate figures and cars exist in unnaturally twisted time and space. It's symbol smashing into symbol where nature and architecture and humanity don't have breadth and life and existence and meaning. He's reducing the interplay of people to a stage set. Looking deeply into this is like being in a Star Trek episode where they realize they are in a holodeck because reality is fraying at the edges.
Yeah, but you're approaching it like an art critic. Trumpers at the DOL are not thinking that deep. They chose it to say "remember back in 1954 when Wypipo had it so great with church on Sunday and picnic baskets and no N-words, spics or f-gs around? Man, those were the good ol' days"
Can't say I blame them. The assumption for almost 250 years was that the president would put America 1st.
You and he have different perspective(s). (I’m trying to make an art joke about “perspective.” Did I fail or succeed?)
I think he wants two of them splitting the “I want to vote for a narcissistic rich guy who thinks there’s a simple answer for every complicated problem” vote.
America has a plan for everything. Sometimes many. Like, I think before WW II we had five different plans for invading Canada. I’m sure we’ve all seen WarGames with the dozens of nuclear war scenarios at the movie’s climax. But this, we didn’t plan for.
If Trump said he wants to end the war in Ukraine by sending US troops to fight for Russia, would the GOP stop him? Would the generals go along?
One year down, 3 to go!!! Huh? At the front end, it was British imperialism, and at the back end, it was 99 years running out.
Did Britain lose a war that forced them to give Hong Kong back to China? If not, then it is an example based on the conditions set out.
I believe around 30% of U.S. citizens will go along with whatever he says, does, or decides. There are no limits to that statement.
Great Britain gave up all of its empire in various ways. Singapore is a great example mentioned by Belgian Guy, but you can include the whole commonwealth.
Well, and a few other European states with us. The days of Empire had passed, but there was also the matter of trying to maintain something which was unmanageable for nations of our size.
That's something I've been wondering. Exactly what WOULD make the bulk of the GOP say, 'woah, hang on!'. A few have peeled away on some things. I'm hoping it would be if/when Europe starts to introduce heavy tariffs or sanctions on US imports that would impact some of their backers or maybe if we started greatly increasing US borrowing costs.
I predicted Trump would switch sides - which has come to pass in various ways. An interesting dynamic Michael Weiss has been pointing out is the US is such a behemoth that there are still interesting divisions. For instance the while the Hegseth and his leadership are openly hostile to Ukraine, the CIA have been very active in support. And deployed US forces in europe are still highly cooperative.
Trump has just posted what he claims are the personal text messages he received from French President Emmanuel Macron. The apparent message in full read: “My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let us try to build great things: 1) i can set up a g7 meeting after Davos in Paris on thursday afternoon. I can invite the ukrainians, the danish, the syrians and the russians in the margins 2) let us have a dinner together in Paris together on thursday before you go back to the us. Emmanuel.”
My periodic ******** YOU AND GO ******** YOURSELF to all of those who voted for this absolute calamity, including those who didn't vote because " there was no difference between the black lady and the orange sociopath".
