10-years went slightly up. That might be the Powell fight or Morgan Stanley predicting that they will need to raise short term rates sometime this year, but honestly long term rates are more based on views of where the economy is going. For all of Trump's first year 10-years have been bouncing between 4.5 and 4, and he really wants it in the 1-something area.
This does present an interesting question. Since there was an attempt to remove Trump from the ballot in 2024 because he was part of the insurrection, there is some precedent for SCOTUS overruling the Constitution. Saying that, he wasn't ever convicted, so there is some leeway to that argument. But with the 22nd, it is more clear in what the amendment (Constitution) says, so it should be clearer on how SCOTUS rules. Should be. Yet we have seen them rule in favor of Trump, himself, when they really should not have. I'm thinking Presidential immunity, specifically. And that may be a difference being Trump, himself, versus any policy of decision he is making (thinking National Guard). I think we'll have a clearer picture when the tariff decision is produced. But you other point, though, is when would a case like this begin? Would we need to wait until the filing deadline? Or would it be when the ballot is printed? Or the first primary? Or a primary in a Dem AG state? Or will we have to wait until the Republican convention? And if we wait until the convention, were will that be heard? In the convention state? Or could DC file and get an expedited decision (though process) from SCOTUS? @yossarian thoughts?
And that investment will be predicated on a stable government. Hence why Exxon has said they are not going in (having been burned twice before).
Wait...Trump is saying that if the tariffs are ruled illegal, then all those investments and fees and incentives for building in the US would have to be paid back as well? I know he is unwell, but that is just stupid.
Yeah. I was wondering how companies were going to extract those richess in a profitable way. saw a docu about the efforts to pump up the mining of rare earth metals in Alaska, which by the Greenland standards is a mild environment and it aint easy, especially the logistics. It take at least a decade to get something out of the ground/ice in Greenland. Put on that the EU most likely will sanction any company stealing from Greenland.
Remember when the trumpists here were getting all upset that some of us were using the term "nazi" when talking about the actions of the GOP leaders and Musk? Yeah, it seems those leaders are embracing their inner nazis now.
He needs a reason to deploy navy/army there to uphold the Project 2025 delusion of domination of the American hemisphere. Without that it only means military overstretch being detrimental to the need to be where it really matters.
Anyone who thinks the elections in November and 2028 will be free and fair is deluding themself. There is a reason they have been going full authoritarian since the start of the new year. They know they have to make it a thoroughly fascist state before the elections happen. You'll also notice they are now simply ignoring laws Congress passed (Epstein). The heat has been turned up and still there aren't enough people fighting back or speaking out.
Is it? Hundreds of US companies are suing the US to get their money back in the unlikely event that the US Supreme Court rules in favor of the US Constitution.
Not Chevron. They still maintained operations in Venezuela but just accepted the terms Chavez and Maduro proposed to them. So I am guessing their barrier of investment to make money might be lower. The thing about these companies is that they need judicial and security guarantees for their investments. Investments that might have return only in the long term. More than the 3 years Trump has left in his term.
Oh crap. When I was 10 yo I was fascinated by ancient cultures and I read the series of books "La Vie Quotidienne des Aztèques/des Égyptiens/des Incas etc. So a lot has been revised since then... Oh boy...I already thought when I watched the series on tv about the new findings around the Incas wether these new findings already found their way in recent books.
If your party runs a candidate that by law can't be running, isnot by default the opponent, or opponents if an independent runs too beating you?
University of Oxford press has a series called "A Very Short Introductions". They have books for the Aztecs, Maya, several for the Egyptians and several other ancient cultures (not the Inca, unfortunately). The books contain the latest understandings and are pretty good - and cheap.
Not sure if it's fatigue on the part of Democrats or because this criminal regime is basically untouchable. But the only saving if it happens has to come from Republicans and especially Republican politicians.
So is anyone certain about what’s coming. Being certain of failure when that isn’t true makes failure more likely.
You will need the army to do that. They do know that in that case they commit high treason and when civilians get killed, the punishment is death?
They would try, yes. However, as good old John Bolton pointed out, doing a coup is hard. Especially in a federal country which has multiple center of powers at the lower level that can serve as rallying points and the putschists are morons.
So you end up with the putchists states and those fighting it. Thank god you civilians arenot armed to the teeth. According to Reuters, Donald Trump won 31 states, including key former Democratic strongholds like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin, while Kamala Harris carried 19 states. Despite the Republican sweep in terms of state count, many blue states remain more densely populated, meaning the Electoral College map often tells a different story than the national popular vote.
