I honestly haven't bothered looking into it, but from the clip I saw -- and considering Hegseth was next to him -- I got the impression they were attempting to do some sort of re-enlistment ceremony and he was reading the oath. Needless to say, if that was what was happening, it sounds just like the sort of stupid, performative bullshit Major Hegseth would come up with.

justiceforkennedy.substack.com https://justiceforkennedy.substack.com › p › the-heritage-foundation-needs-to The Heritage Foundation needs to be labelled as the racist hate ... 3 dagen geleden1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.
With the rapid destruction of education, at least since Bush 2 if not earlier, he's not wrong. The wrestling grifter is accelerating it even more.
My neighbor works for DoorDash. it could be worse. On the food front, they are really well positioned to be a data leader on inflation.
1. That was my initial reaction too, and why I don’t like images. I prefer the link, so I can verify. 2. That “lie to me if you have to” phrase is making a belated comeback. Trump 2 is vastly more insane than Trump 1. It’s like Trump 1 was really good weed, and Trump 2 is a full dose of LSD.* *My ability to make this analogy work is hindered by the fact that the only drugs I’ve done are weed, LSD, and over the counter opioids. All yall feel free to edit it to make it more accurate.
If you recall the press conference where Trump was falling asleep, someone noticed that on his desk were what looked like gold coasters. According to the company Gorilla Pro Customs, they were the ones that supplied them. You can buy a set too. Only one left. I don't know what would be worse, if the ones on Trump's desk were fake or real.
Well this might be an interesting discussion, though not necessarily immediately linked to the immediate ********ed-up shit we are experiencing right now. I think the not so vaguely racist stuff like welfare queens was a pre-cursor to the subsequent wholesale absorbing of the U.S. conservative movement by a white nationalist/white supremacist movement. You cannot pander to racists in your messaging and then feign total innocence when the patients end up overtaking the asylum. Likewise I think Bush the 43rd has more than a bit of responsibility for the moment we have arrived at, for that administration's eroding of and lack of respect for institutions and norms. They did not yet take it as far as Trump has, obviously, but Cheney, Rove and co definitely tested the waters in that regard.
The thing about the crazy down those years is it was quarantined and kept mostly away from power. Even Bush governed as an institutionalist. Hell they were the institution. The era we are in is more like if Bush had made Rush Limbaugh the head of the FBI. That said for me Bush is pretty much directly responsible for this era. The Iraq war and the GFC are usually seen as critical inflexion points in collapse of institutional trust. I tend to agree with Hunter S Thompson that Bush was a proto-fascist administration. He literally launched a global imperialistic war.
Yep. That’s why I don’t get presidential rankings that don’t put Bush in the bottom 5. He was like an earthquake that messes up the foundation of a building but doesn’t bring it down. Trump of course is the earthquake that does. So his administration sucked in and of itself, and also had a direct, negative effect on what happened afterwards.
Isn't it the difference between something being 'responsible for' and something 'leading to'? The right has always been liable to lie and dissemble to suit their purpose but Reagen's use of certain false narratives, ('Welfare queens' as you suggest but there are others such as the Laffer curve), took it to another level. The fact that reality didn't matter and we could just 'meme' ourselves into success became very much the defining position under Reagan. It was the same with Thatcher where we'd all become 'leaner and fitter' simply by selling off state assets to rich and powerful business interests. Any failings were a result of strong unions and workers rights. Not the fact that privatisation was fecking insane and making unfunded tax cuts without realising that services would suffer was the act of an innumerate fool. The fact is, once you start down the road of ignoring reality to THAT extent, you don't reverse course at some point and say, 'Hang on... that doesn't make any sense'. But, as a vid I posted a while back pointed out, it wasn't JUST that reagan did what he did... it was the dems took the message they had to copy his insanity and that, somehow, due to 'the magic of the market' it would all work out.
To put it more bluntly, we don't end up here without Reagan. Who do you think helped get him over the finish line? The same white nationalist evangelicals that support the orange turd. Sure the actor did what he was trained to do, which is add a shine to their rhetoric but he and his administration destroyed everything that FDR on built for this country and we've been sliding ever since.
Trump 1 was a bad acid trip, and Trump 2 is the day after and the acid was absolutely full of strycchnine. And you have no weed and no beer and you forgot you have guests coming to dinner.
