What are you talking about? Sepp Blatter voted for the US to get the 2022 WC. He knew that a WC in the US would be a huge money maker for FIFA.

Yes, he said as much publicly - yet what was the result again? You really buy that he didn't know in advance about the bribes nor was in on it himself? Why not expose the whole thing and restart the process?

    What are you talking about?;)

Here's an overview for anybody not greatly familiar.

The big issue, I gather, is that a member of the press could be prosecuted for breaking any of Vodka Pete's rules.

He lost control of the vote. And he was concerned that the corruption had gotten too visible. Blatter was corrupt as hell, but he wasn't dumb. He knew that giving the WC's to Russia and Qatar would come back to bite FIFA.

Maybe learn about what happened, rather than spouting your usual nonsense.

This is short-sighted on his part, but what else is new? The reason there's a Pentagon press corps is because the Pentagon wants to put its spin on stories. These reporters aren't going to stop covering the defense beat, the Pentagon will just have less influence on the narrative.

It's part of the overall attack on the press by this administration.

Speaking of this administration attacking Americans...

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/john-bolton-justice-dept-seeks-grand-jury-indictment/

The Justice Department is expected to present a possible criminal case and seek a grand jury indictment against former national security adviser John Bolton as soon as Thursday afternoon at a federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

This is interesting as somebody, somewhere, suggested that Adam Schiff would likely not get indicted because he lives in Maryland. But I think that was more related to mortgage fraud stuff. Bolton is a different type of case.

uh huh - it's the classic watch what someone does - not what they say. He didn't just "lost control", he either was in on it or/and let it happen - no one buys he didn't know what was going on but good on you for being one of the few to believe Blatter's version of the events:thumbsup:

I expect Bolton has plenty of dirt that he can use against people. This case should be interesting.

The division of the US District Court in Greenbelt draw from an area that is as blue as any you will come across. Prosecutors might have a problem getting a indictment against even John Bolton. While I don't live there anymore, it is where I grew up.

I can't believe that FIFA would really let Trump move around WC cities. Not because FIFA is virtuous at all, but they already have to have sold lots of expensive VIP and hospitality ticket packages to the uber-wealthy with the understanding that these games would be in more glamorous places like LA, San Fran, NY, etc., and not places like Salt Lake City, Omaha, Oklahoma City, etc. I'd imagine that FIFA would get a lot of very unhappy, very wealthy ticket buyers if they tried this switch from blue to red states.

And I feel like FIFA picked stadiums at least in part by the number of suites and other high-end seating options they could provide, and even nice college football stadiums that might be big enough just aren't going to measure up in that regard.

All great points, but what is FIFA going to do about it?

Not come back for a while :ROFLMAO:

The biggest "no-no" to do to FIFA is : taking the control of the World Cup away from them, Higher ups won't forget it.

LOL how many teams were there then? How many matches? How many stadia were needed?

Honest question…is there any nation on Earth besides the US that can properly host a 48 team World Cup by itself?

Saudi Arabia 2034 (using 15 stadiums), no doubt China could, Top UEFA nations - should I keep going?

However if we're talking joint bids, that opens the door to more nations and CONCACAF can organize one without the US

Very unlikey. It will have to be mostly Mexico with other 5 or 6 countries contributing just one stadium, so not sure how that can work. I suspect that at this point FIFA is pretty much done with the confederation rotation and will just take the next high bidder that is not from the last two tournaments.

Someone earlier made the point that they weren't done with rotation since confederation were banned to bid for 2030 and 2034 - no evidence they'll stop anytime soon. So far, they said they'll keep doing joint bids otherwise 2030 would not have happened.

As a joint CONCACAF bid, the flight time between those countries are either similar or shorter than some of the US domestic flights...Even Toronto to Mexico City is around 4h30 (similar or less than NY -->LA)...minus the visa/immigration/unpredictability headaches.

China could if their government wanted to spend the money.

It looks like Saudi Arabia is going to go it alone, but perhaps they will throw some games to other Arab countries, then again, Qatar basically held a 32 team World cup in 1 city and it's suburbs,

Dang, I agreed with Robert, :(
