Bessent working on $20B more for Argentina. Okay, so it's outside funding and not from the US Gov. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/...argentina-by-tapping-outside-funding-00609011 Still, that's a $40B bailout for Argentina. https://thehill.com/business/5556788-government-shutdown-daily-cost-bessent/ Also, he says the shutdown is going to cost the US $15B/day.
From the AP live feed: President Donald Trump’s administration for now must stop firing workers during the government shutdown, a federal judge in San Francisco ordered on Wednesday. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston issued the emergency order after federal agencies on Friday started issuing layoff notices aimed at reducing the size of the federal government. The layoff notices are part of an effort by Trump’s Republican administration to exert more pressure on Democratic lawmakers as the government shutdown continues. Of course, this will last until it gets to SCOTUS, or maybe before.
I never took the FIRE group seriously when a guy who was a known sex pest went to them when the person rightfully suffered consequences for some stuff he wrote in his academic work. The judge that dismissed his case was a Republican.
The issue is, and something I've brought up before, is that a lot of the anti-Israel rhetoric can easily and I mean easily slide into antisemitism. And the things protestors were doing, like taking over college buildings, in the name of Palestine isn't going to be a good look. The problem is if Dems don't do anything to dismiss that, Republicans are going to come across and say they have a solution.
One seriously can't keep up with the shit. It's just nuts. Just today, Trump has basically confirmed the US will be invading Venezuela by land to after cartels now that the "sea drugs" have stopped. And, he's publicly called for the DOJ to investigate Andrew Weissman. The damage being done by this man is insane.
Dems only ever seem to care about wars involving Jews. I am not sure if that is true, but its how they come across. And as such, they just make themselves easy targets to label as antisemitic/anti-Israel/pro-fanatical cultures whether true or not. There are, what, like two dozen wars on-going atm(?), including some really horrific ones outside of a 100-square mile strip of land in Israel. Put down the phone and look around.
I've seen Trumpism and the damage done Some dignity taken from everyone But every Trumpie's like a smoking gun
Conditional to Argentinians voting "the right" way at the next legislative elections. All this crying about foreign interference to just overtly doing it to others. The US has to be the most hypocritical nation on earth
Welp.. Nice World Cup you have there... Hope you are OK with the current US host cities not hosting. In a statement to Sky News, FIFA has handed Trump another cudgel to use against blue cities. FIFA has confirmed that the US government has the ability to determine if a US city is "safe" enough to host the World Cup and can move venues if the government determines the city isn't safe. https://news.sky.com/story/donald-t...or-the-world-cup-fifa-tells-sky-news-13450773
Facts and now they just activated the CIA to carry out lethal operations in Venezuela while coldly murdering people under false pretext at sea. The invasion of Venezuela is coming... all those speech on Russia just so they end up doing the same themselves. How poetic
Like I said in another thread...enjoy this world cup to the fullest. Can't see the US hosting in a long while after this
Same for Foxboro, Inglewood, and Santa Clara, but you know darn well that Trump can't read a map. He's only going to see LA, San Francisco, Boston, and NYC.
You seem to be under the false pretense that FIFA cares about such things. If the US continues on this path, it will fit in even more than it does now. We just had World Cups hosted by Russia and Qatar. Add in Saudi Arabia in 2034 and you've got a lot of corruption and human rights violations. Also, another consideration, with Portugal and Spain joining Morocco to host 2030 and Saudi Arabia winning the bid for 2034, that means only CONCACAF and OFC would be eligible to host 2038. Since none of the Central American or Caribbean countries could realistically host the World Cup (even if they grouped together), that would leave another joint US/Canada/Mexico hosting possibility.
Well they are in the orbit of Dem-run shitholes. We all knew this was gonna be a Richie Rich WC as most in recent times have been. You'd have better odds of getting tickets by joining a yoot team and hoping they get picked to go to a game.
That’s funny because I was in grad school in Chicago in ‘94. I could have afforded a match. Alas, I had no interest in seeing Greece v. Bulgaria, so I missed Stoichkov going ballistic against the worst team in the finals. I did, however, get to watch said worst team workout at my university. Damn, those guys were terrific athletes and some of them were hardcore ballers. But not good enough to help Greece earn a single point. But again, I could have afforded a seat while making 15,00o a year on mynstipend.
In 1994 the first round games in Foxboro (Cat. 2) were $40. I got to se Maradona score a great goal vs. Greece, a classic battle between Argentina and Nigeria, Korea vs. Bolivia, which was actually a great game despite the 0-0 scoreline, and Nigeria beating Greece to win the group. That was the game where the Greek manager said he'd rather be pissed on by a dog than lose to Nigeria. So both times the Super Eagles scored, they all went to the corner flag and took turns "marking" it. The next round they jacked up the prices all the way to $45 for Nigeria-Italy, and then a whopping $50 for Italy vs. Spain. This year, No way can I afford it. Talk about the "prawn sandwich" brigade.
They're actually hosting a few games with Spain, Morocco and Portugal, so that might rule them out as well.
In order to get CONMEBOL to agree to Morocco, Spain, and Portugal hosting 2030, FIFA agreed to have a game in each of Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. https://inside.fifa.com/organisatio...n-fifa-world-cup-tm-editions-in-2030-and-2034
Sigh...All it took was Infantinf's crush on Trump for you to forget that a certain Sepp Blatter used to run FIFA and he had no crush on the US. What's stopping China to copy Saudi Arabia and get their World Cup much quicker? Forgetting Conmebol likely to try again? Concacaf's turn will likely be in the 2040s. Co-hosting with US again? That's kind of premature talk, Mexico and Canada could decide to partner with the US - after all, we're doing just that on trade
