June 8, 2012 TORONTO ... American Hockey League President and CEODavid Andrews has issued the following statement: “We have spoken with Toronto Marlies management and confirmed that a rules interpretation error by the on-ice officials occurred on the Norfolk Admirals’ overtime goal during Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals. “On the play, a dump-in from center ice by a Norfolk player caromed off a stanchion and into the Toronto net. The correct application of AHL Rule 83.4 would have negated the Norfolk goal due to a delayed offside call. “As AHL By-Laws do not allow for any change to the final result of a game based on an incorrect rule interpretation, the result of the game stands.”
I'm not sure either but as a former (and I mean REALLY former) hockey referee, I don't know how the linesman missed the offside call there with at least 3 blue players in the attacking zone. Guessing that crew won't get another game at that level.
well, he did signal for a delayed offside which was then negated upon the touch up by Norfolk (in blue)...but at the point that the puck somehow goes into the Toronto net the play then needs to be blown dead and you go back calling the original offside.
Not trying to justify this thread, but if I remember correctly it's an update on a previous thread (that I can't find). I believe it came out of a discussion on how refs in others sports are rarely involved in soccer-style mega-controversies.
