What inthe world was going on there? For some mexicans can club our players in the neck and if we sneeze in their general direction its a card. Unbelieveable Mexico played well, but that Linesman was in no position to call Davies offside at all. And if running into gooch on purpose isn't a card, I don't know what is.
Whinning.....Are you mentally retarded?? This is a athletic competition why a ref have to come into play...
The referree was terrible. The officiating was an embaressment to the entire CONCACAF. The US did get outplayed by Mexico. No question or debate about it. That being said, the ref was unbelievably one-sided.
What yellow-cards on the USA weren't warranted? And yes Davies was offside. I didn't notice the position of the linesman but he got the call correct so what are you whinging about?
All of them...if you watch the things that were not called against Mexico and apply the same standard. Much like the old saying in American Football..."You can call holding on every play." The problem is when you call it lopsided, knowing that one team is getting away with it.
The problem isn't so much at the cards weren't warranted, but more that they were inconsistent. Mexico could have, and probably should have, gotten cards for the same fouls. No doubt the threat of 110,000 angry spectators willing to rip your throat out through your ass if you call against them pressured the ref a bit.
Alexei Lalas, is that you? As in any football match, there were 1 or 2 debatable decisions and as usual they went in favor of the home team. But these were very minor decisions. Minor as in whether or not to give a Mexican player his first yellow in the 89th minute. Were there any calls that actually affected the 2-1 outcome though?
Mexico should buy the ref a steak for all the non calls against them yeah well mexico isn't making it to the world cup anyways
exactly, just one of the conditions of the game. Tough game, tough loss, but no one said it would be easy.
Davies offside call, for one, I couldn't tell from the great mun2 camera angle. Also if guardado had gotten yellow carded the first foul, he could not have the foul that stopped Dolo from running straight at their defenders. Not giving out cards for stuff like running into Gooch allowed the Mexicans to play their typical style of classless play that gets under the skin of the other team. Don't think professionals get irritated by stuff like that, then why do NHL teams have skill less goons? and no it's not just to fight. I'm not blaming the ref, our organization was terrible all game. But refereeing does change games and very easily can change a scoreline regardless of major noticeable missed calls.
When the announcers (who have just a little bit of bias) start hedging their bets with "well, I don't know if he was offside or not..." there's your answer. He was not offside.
Mexico qualified for the WC today. Look at their matches for the last 3 rounds of the HEX. Which play are you referring to? The one midway through the second-half where he slid the ball slowly into the net after the whistle?
If you actually believe that then you are a complete fool, this was one of the most terribly officiated games of football I have watched in years. Absolutely disgusted by the decisions the ref made on throughout the entire match.. not to mention the mexicant fans throwing trash at Donovan while he was trying to take a corner....is it any wonder why we don't play in that "country" half of them prob game across the border to go to that game anyways
The refs were scared to card Mexico. Three out of four of our back line had a card within the first half and Mexico doesn't get one until late in the second? The ref let the crowd dictate the game, Mexico had many equivalent tackles that got Americans yellows, while Mexicans got nothing. Would the result have been different if the ref had been less of a **********? Probably not. The USA's midfield was almost non-existent today which was the biggest factor of all.
You're overreacting because of your passionate support for your team. It wasn't perfect, but the worst game you've watched in years? Unless you've watched like 5 games total, that's just overreacting. The ref saved us from playing with 10 on that Bocanegra second-yellow foul to Gio on a breakaway. That's more of an advantage we got from him than all the pro-MX calls put together. As for offsides, the calls went both ways.
I thought the non-call when Donovan got pulled down by his arm just about 1 minute before Mexico's first goal was totally mizz!! AND led to a goal.
You were disgusted by a couple of empty paper cups being thrown in Landon's direction? Talk about grasping for straws. Did you not watch some of the Gold Cup games (you know... on US soil)? Much worse! El Salvador - Costa Rica in Los Angeles comes to mind but there were others.
