GK Lee Camp has been loaned out to Nottingham Forest so Reece may have a better chance of getting on the bench for a game.
Yes if only the new manager saw the light of yanks abroad reasoning ... Cerny has been pretty good, though Camp's leaving really leaves no serious challenger to Cerny, the opportunity may be there for Mr Crowther.
That said, Jake Cole remains ahead of Crowther in the pecking order. Cole was on the bench behind Cerny for last Tuesday's game (first game after Camp was loaned to Forest).
Crowther is on the bench for QPR's FA Cup 3rd Round replay tonight at Burnley. Game thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=912021 QPR official site list of the lineups: http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1519027,00.html
Crowther, described in this article as an "Aussie stopper" (according to another poster, he was born in the US, but raised in Australia), has had his QPR contract terminated by mutual consent and with immediate effect.
I think the A League transfer window is still open (It was a few days ago anyway). Maybe he is heading to Australia to play.
Looks like he is trying to catch on with the Wellington (NZ) Phoenix, who actually play in Australia's A-League: Young Queensland Roar striker Robbie Kruse has trialled with the Phoenix this month and has now gone back home to Brisbane and former Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Reece Crowther is still with the Phoenix and would appear to have his name in the frame for a contract. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/2421520/Phoenix-selection-battle-gains-intensity And: Young goalkeeper Reece Crowther and strikers Luis Corrales and Roy Krishna have a month to stake their claims to a spot on the Phoenix’s roster for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season, joining the Phoenix squad today as pre-season training kicked up a gear. Towering 20-year-old Australian keeper Crowther trials with the Phoenix after being released by Queens Park Rangers, while Corrales and Krishna are seeking to earn Hyundai A-League contracts after impressing for Team Wellington and Waitakere United, respectively, in the New Zealand Football Championship. http://www.wellingtonphoenix.com/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=27304 I guess he's the big guy in this pic:
Wellington would be a fun place to live and play for a season or two. Hopefully he'll get regular PT and do well. Then perhaps he can move back to Europe.
Update: Pignata says goal-keeper Reece Crowther has impressed since arriving on trial and could be signed by the end of the week. http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=157581
Crowther did sign with Wellington and is currently starting against Sydney in the game on FSC. Born in San Diego but Aussie according to the commentator
Wellington's Kiwi international keeper was injured in practice and may not be available for the next match. Reece might be able to get another start or two.
His wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reece_Crowther) says he wants to represent Australia but is also eligible for England, Ireland and the US.
The odds of him ever becoming a regular for the US are quite slim, so I wouldn't blame him for looking at other options.
Reece got another start. Result (highlight to reveal):Wellington went a man down and conceded 4 goals. and lost the match 4-1.
Agreed. His best bet is Australia or Ireland. Besides Schwartzer, no one for Australia looks solid...not sure about the depth of Ireland but it couldn't be as good England or the US.
Just to inquire but doesnt Australias goalkeeping situation look good with Adam Federici and Brad Jones both starting the Championship for Premier League level clubs?
I'm not a fan of Schwartzer so IMO if they can't beat him out then I think there is room for improvement.
crowther has played a few games so far...very irratic sort of keeper and pretty slow reflexes if he ever gets capped for australia i will jump off a cliff, a reserve a-league keeper at best
Wellington may be looking to sign another GK. Though the source is tribal so could be incorrect. http://www.tribalfootball.com/wellington-phoenix-pursuit-brisbane’s-reddy-505821
There is a possibility that Reece's club will be disbanded in a couple of years. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football/news/article/-/6599352/phoenix-face-aleague-axe
Wellington looking to extend Crowther's contract. http://www.tribalfootball.com/wellington-phoenix-secure-trio-new-deals-week-569281
He did resign with the Wellington Phoenix for next season. The 1st choice GK (#1 for the New Zealand NT as well) also resigned, so looks like Reece will still be the backup. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football/news/article/-/6693714/trio-recommit-phoenix
