First in a series of threads. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to redesign some of MLS team's logos. You cannot change the team name, or the colors. You are simply redesigning the logo, not rebranding. The first team up, the New England Revolution Have at it
I really miss that old Patriots logo. I became a fan of the team in the mid 70s and that logo brings back fond memories of players not quite so long forgotten.
Their uniforms would look a lot better if they went blue/white/red for the shirt/shorts/socks combination.
As a revs fan i honestly dont care either way about our crest, if they change it then change it to something that looks good and more official, but if you dont oh well then at least were sticking with tradition. But if they do change it i think they should change it to the crest shown here http://www.oleole.com/usa/majorleagu...ion/tl140.html On the top silver lining it says "New England Revolution Soccer" and on the bottom it says "Est. 1996" even though we were established in '95 we just never played till 96
I am going to start with a name change. As a Dynamo supporter, I loved our original identity "Houston 1836" as it showed off a bit of Houston and Texas pride. (1836 was city & state's founding year) If anyone else had to use the founding year identity, it should be New England. Revolution 1776
I think I speak for more than a few Union supporters when I say if ya'll want to be the "fightin' calendars" then go ahead be my guest.
Don Garber says that if they can put a stadium in downtown boston, the team's popularity will grow to Seattle Sounders proportions. So that's the first step. Then rename it Boston Revolution. Let the fans think it was their idea. Get some pros to do the crest.
I'm not even American but shouldn't it be 1775 anyways? The Declaration - a Philly thing, right? - was 1776 but hostilities started a year earlier and there was already a "Revolution" going on by that point. And I hate getting involved in other teams' business but yeah, that logo is terrible. The wordmark is even worse. New England needs their own local version of OnGoal.
Boston Pilgrims - gold, black, white Boston Shamrocks - green, white Boston Militia - dark green, gold Boston Atlantics - purple, sky blue, white I don't have any designs to offer. Just daydreams.
On March 17, 1776 , the 11-month siege of Boston ended when the Continental Army, under the command of George Washington, fortified Dorchester Heights with cannons captured at Ticonderoga. They dragged them on sledges across the snow and the British awoke one morning to see these cannons pointed at their ships. British General William Howe, whose garrison and navy were threatened by these positions, was forced to decide between attack and retreat. To prevent what could have been a repeat of the Battle of Bunker Hill, Howe decided to retreat, withdrawing from Boston to Nova Scotia on March 17. The British were given free passsage out of Boston harbor in exchange for not burning down the town. The British evacuation was Washington's first victory of the war. It was also a huge morale boost for the Thirteen Colonies, as the city where the rebellion began was the first to be liberated. Washington faced the British later again in NYC and , basicallly, got their tails whipped, barely escaping up and over the NJ palisades and hightailing it down towards Trenton for the winter. Bostonians of all backgrounds still celebrate the victory and Evacuation Day is a Suffolk County ( Boston) holiday. The large Irish population of Boston especially enjoy the day as they celebrate the defeat of their English rivals on March 17th. It is purely coincidence that Evacuation Day is also the same day as the little known holiday of St.Patrick's Day.
i really like the Revolution name and even New England isnt bad but if they were to move to their own stadium somewhere either in Boston or at least closer to the city than I could see them becoming the Boston Revolution but like almost everyone else i agree that the logo has to go and be replaced with a proper crest (plus then it would only leave Columbus with their original crest from 96, whether thats a good thing or not is another story for another thread...)
I'm not saying the Revolution need to or should ever change their name - that's their business - but The Boston Atlantic Football Club*, aka Boston Atlantic FC*, aka the Atlantics is a name that really rolls off the tongue and just sounds "proper" for lack of a better term. Just like how Le Club Hockey de Canadien became "the Montreal Canadiens" or how Tottenham Hotspur changes to "Spurs" in common speech you can switch between the formal singular and informal plural depending on the context. Nice suggestion. I don't know about purple though! I would have thought navy, sky blue, and white but Philly and now KC already sorta got there first. *And before anyone complains: yes, that could just as easily be The Boston Atlantic Soccer Club and Boston Atlantic SC if that's your preference.
Great idea Mike! I don't mind the Revoultion team name, but it reminds me of a wnba or a professional lacrosse team. At the very least, we need to change our current logo to a more traditional soccer crest. As a revs fan, I would be happy to change our name to the Boston Atlantic Football Club. It's more professional and has a much better ring to it. Boston Atlantic FC sounds like a championship team. Hopefully Robert Kraft gets on this and builds a stadium in the Boston area or Liverpool/Red Sox owner, John Henry, should start a rival club. A team in Boston would definitely attract much more fans than in Foxborough.
