He’s definitely inconsistent both for club and country….but sometimes I feel like folks on this board forget he’s still 20 freaking years old.

Almost all of our players are very young. It's why some of us think they will have bumps along the way. Using Belgium's golden generation as an example I don't expect there best until the next cycle.

The problem with this Barcelona is the lack of finishing.

They only got 5 goals against. That's pretty average for Barça after six games. The difference this season is that the forwards are not getting the ball in the right spots. There's not enough coming from the wings, and there's no midfield maestro to complement Busquets.

Their expected goals per 90 is lower than any other season. And that's on the midfield & lack of width.

They definitely miss Pedri and Memphis depay isn’t good enough to be their number one forward. So fati being back will be a huge boost.

Sergino, as others have said, was great. If he’s going to continue to play lb, he’s going to get better crossing with his left… and hell, is right too.

Any team who loses a still all-universe Messi will suffer offensively the next season.

Time will tell with Messi; he has yet to jell with his PSG teammates.

Not that it really matters, but was the pass with his right or his left?

For all the reports of Barca's demise, they still haven't lost in the league and really only the Germans can beat them... lol. They need more finishing, but if they can manage a wing away against Athletico next game they likely land in 4th or maybe even 3rd. Tall order, but even a loss they're much less adrift than it looked like they might be in the early going.

With his right. It was a very nice play... great cut to the center and perfect weight on the ball... but the defending was pretty poor. Nevertheless... a pretty great game from Dest. He did have a couple of nice crosses w/ his left in this one as well.

If Fati lives up to the hype and Alba comes back strong then I think they can push for a CL slot. I don't see them winning a title but I think they might be able to match what they did last season or even better if all the chips fall in place. It is a young and talented team... it is going to require a team effort but in the long run it might be better than always having to depend on a legend to bail them out.

I'm hoping the light has gone on with FCB's recent struggles that he needs to take the step from contributor to impact player.

The problem with Dest is that there’s a very big disconnect between Barca Dest and USMNT Dest. The Barca one plays within the system, passes, doesn’t dribble at players too often, tracks back, and generally stays disciplined.

USMNT Dest is the opposite- we get an undisciplined player who seems to think he’s got to go it alone, dribble past multiple players and often forgets he’s a defensive player.

That can’t be the role he’s asked to play.

I’d honestly consider Dest a reserve behind Robinson and Arujao until he can show discipline with the US.

He’s not necessarily the only one either - these kids must learn to play for each othe, just like they do in their clubs

Yeah, if they can roll up a big Fati, who knows how high they'll go.

Did you just promote Araujo from "Maybe he'll play for El Tri" to "He's our starter now?" Perhaps a leap.

Your criticisms of Dest's play for USMNT are fair, but I think they go too far. He's still one of our best players and we need to figure out how to integrate him better.

I think our depth at RB is a bit overblown.

I think Dest is one of the most purely talented players in USMNT history but he’s a liability unless he shows tactical discipline. Hopefully they get that cleaned up for his next start

    Which one?

Dest was a starter at 18 for Ajax and is a starter for Barca at 20. We don't have much history with that kind of talent.
