No longer a Barça lounger: Sergiño Dest at PSV (olf FC Barcelona)

Dest starts today for Barcelona against Real Sociedad.

It looks like Depay and Eric Garcia also start, while Emerson Royal is on the bench. I think the Barcelona lifers that are on big salaries like Pique have taken some pay cuts to get them registered.

 

The death of Dest's Barcelona career has been largely exaggerated.

 

This game is on ABC apparently.

Why doesn’t anyone do “all touches” video of the top US player Dest?

 

I don't because I'm too lazy. No idea why others don't.

 

Good enough reason for Dest to keep his starting position.

 

Emerson is still adapting to Barcelona. He's going to make rookie mistakes. Time will tell whether he is good enough to eventually replace Dest as a starter (unless the rumor mill proves accurate and Dest is about to be loaned out....)

Some probably didn't bother to check. Well... he is Brazilian, goes by one name and is getting backup minutes at RB/RWB... The sky is falling...

In all seriousness Barca is very thin at back right now. Roberto is too slow to play the position now... so I fully expect Emerson to get minutes. If either Alba or Dest gets hurt for any length of time I think the team could really struggle. They are probably the most demanding positions in this formation as they are expected to contribute on O and D.

 

Apparently Barca is looking to move to a 3 man back formation and have offers out for Palmer, but Lake is not for sale, sadly.

 

Palmer priced himself out of the market with that iconic solo video.

if it isn’t this president, it sure as hell will be the next one who will be forced to suck out 10s of millions a year from the club just to start to pay down the principal. Shit, at 1% interest, that’s $16M per year.

Point being, if Dest can keep the job for 2-3 years, he will be able to keep it for 10.

 

la masia still is an incredible academy and putting out world class talent...they are going to have a difficult transition for a few years but i think they will be forced to get back to complementing their own talent with world class imports. if they can figure out how to hang on to the young core they are going to be very dangerous for the foreseeable future. there was never going to be an easy way to say goodbye to messi, so maybe a clean break is for the best

Dest was just voted "USMNT player most able to make the Dempsey face." But I doubt he ever gets that annoyed.
