if one is red-carded in a match, are they required to leave just the pitch, or the entire surrounding area as well?
i ask ,because i was myself red carded in a match this weekend, and was ordered to leave the entire field complex. this seemed odd to me...

A player who is sent off, under USSF, must leave the area of the field. Often this is considered as out of sight and sound.

Provided of course that it is safe to have the player removed out of sight. We don't want a youth player wandering about the parking lot unsupervised ...

A player has been shown a red card must leave the field of play and may not join team members in the technical area. He/she must leave the vicinity, therefor the referee in your game was right to tell you to leave =)

These are FIFA (and thus USSF) regulations, of course. College and high school do not require the player to leave the technical area.

I will never till 13 year old johnny to leave the field of play for a red card. Unless he is a disturbance. I think by telling him to leave at a park. Maybe mom and dad arent there and he gets snatched up by a petafile. Now thats misconduct onmy part.
