Unless they think that they will be pulling in huge crowds in the future and the plans for a SSS are just too small and way below their vision for the future, this sounds nuts.. ie: "We will be getting 50K every week. We need the Meadowlands. We don't want to build a little stadium. Perhaps a huge soccer stadium long in the future."
I'll give a positive rep' to any poster who can plant a listening device in the Red Bull offices and get back to us...
Rep President Dubya. He put in a tap thinking the Austrians were coming. he underestimates Italy, ghana, and the Czech Republic.
Yeah, why would Red Bull buy a 50% stake in the stadium, plus the naming rights and 1 month later say, "nah, we'd rather stay at the Meadowlands." I just don't see that happening.
Actually, what I thought was red bull might indeed be pulling out and think: screw it, harrison is bush league, we are going to be red bull cosmos in Manhattan - AEG, you can have our half of Harrison stadium back and AEG says, no problem, we will start our own team in Harrison when it gets built.
Good god....if they kill Harrision they will kill the future of New York socccer, please tell me thye are not serious about staying at the Meaowlands!! Everyone i meet looks to Harrison as the key to the progress of soccer here , if they kill that they slit the throat of the market....period.
I'm assuming the logic is, if they can get a star player like Ronaldo, and become a big draw like the Cosmos were, and they would be able to get good crowds in the meadowlands, then it would make sense to stay in the bigger venue.
Come on man, why do you think harrison will be killed. Doesn't AEG own 50 percent of it and they were planning to pay for the whole thing anyways. Finding guys to buy soccer teams (like Andrew Murstein) hasn't been as big a problem as finding a suitable place to play. Wouldn't it be in AEG's best interest to get the thing bujilt by themselves if they have to.
I jsut can't resist the opportunity to be involved in this thread. You seriously can't make this shit up. It's like RB took all of Bigsoccers endless bitching about new york, new jersey, and soccer in general, put it in a blender, and made the result into their business plan.
Yeah they're probably reading these threads right now..trying to find ways to make things even more frustrating.
1. why would they want anything to do with that ridiculous lease at NJM? not to mention the Zoff treatment? especially when you have someone footing 50% of the bill for a brand new park? 2. if you change the name to 'Cosmos', you pretty much have to change the uniforms also. IIRC, the Cosmos colors are/were black, green, yellow, sky blue. and I was under the impression that for Red Bull, the cookie-cutter red/white uniforms were paramount to their marketing efforts (i.e. the Red Bull team identity). i'm not sure if DM can have it both ways on this one.
