I already saw that - it's a month old. It definately is a good video, but new stuff has been added now in a month. Really wanting to see the insides and the roof.

 

My son had a game this past Saturday at Riverbank Park in the Ironbound section of Newark, which is right across from the stadium site. I took a few pictures:



This park was suggested as a place to meet up and do some tailgating (this is a picture of the park's north-east corner). I'ts not that big. Most of it is taken up by the soccer field and a playground on the east side and another field (I believe it's a baseball field) on the west side.





The view of Red Bull Arena under construction, taken just across the street from Riverbank Park. This would be the south side of the stadium.

 

This is looking west at the bridge that leads across from Newark to Harrison.



Going across the brige into Harrison. You can definitely walk across as there is a sidewalk on the bridge.



This is the view from right over the bridge, on Frank E. Rodgers Blvd.

 

The west end of the stadium, which is what we all see when looking at the webcam. I was actually wondering if that empty space in the foreground is where the multi-tier parking garage is going to be built?



Just north, there is still that fugly warehouse standing.

that "fugly warehouse" would be an amazing building to turn into a urban reuse retail/entertainment complex to complement the new arena district that will no doubt arise.

that's fantastic stock to reuse. It's just worn, I'd rather keep something with character and large uninterrupted space than the stuff they put up nowadays for the same purpose.

Unfortunately Doc, his coach had him play Right Back, as several of his defenders couldn't make the game (we actually had only one sub). He did rather well, actually, and his team won this very good pre-season scrimage. Final score: Arsenal World Class Strikers (BU11) 2 - Den of Lions (BU11) 1.

That said, I can't wait until the stadium tour next week.

 

I think the stadium is going to be amazing! One thing that concerns me a little bit is the close proximity to the river. Has this ever burst it's banks in the past and if so would the stadium be flooded? God forbid it ever happens but does anyone know the answer?

Yeah, there is a problem with flooding all along the towns that are along the Passaic River. I live in Paramus, Bergen County and I know that the nearby towns along the Passaic River have a big problem with flooding. Every time a Noreaster hits, towns like Fair Lawn, Garfield, Elmwood Park, Rutherford there is extensive flooding along the banks of the Passaic. Just a couple of years ago there was a big one that hit and the field where my son's former club team practiced and played their games (located right next to the Passaic in Fair Lawn) was completely covered by the river. I don't know if that's the case further south along the Newark/Harrison bank but I would imagine it would flood also.

 

No, we've never had a problem with the river bursting it banks in this area.

 

I would assume that someone looked at the flood maps during the design phase of the project and made sure that the stadium was at a safe elevation.

 

On March 10, the City of Newark will be holding a public forum meeting, 6:30 pm at City Hall, regarding the design of this park, where they are seeking input from residents. I plan to attend this meeting and may have an opportunity to speak directly with the planner. It is a seven acre site on a fairly narrow strip of land between Raymond Blvd. and the Passaic River, just north of the Jackson Street Bridge. It will form a convenient pathway between Newark Penn and the stadium if that is your route, which is .8 miles, a roughly 15 minute walk at a decent pace.

If there are any specific comments or questions, please let me know and I'll see if they can be answered at this meeting.

 

I can atest to Viper's concerns about the Passaic. I live in Fair Lawn, but I'm not far away from the River. I'm near Fair Lawn Ave on the other side of Rte 208 North. But I have used River Road to get to work which is along the Passaic and of course there is Rte 20 that becomes Rte 21 when you go south. About a week to two stretch I've seen the river rise and nearly get close to River Road, but then it went down again.

At a point when you get away from Elmwood Park and hit the town line of Fair Lawn, there are houses along the bank of the river, where the street by Elmwood Park seperates the houses and school from the river. Don't forget that the Marcal Paper mill is also close to the River, so you never know if it might flood over there as well.

 

That's a safe assumption, as otherwise they would not have gotten permits from the DEP to proceed with construction.

 

I think they're properly stocked to absorb the moisture.

 

i know that most of the recent work has been the little unseen important stuff, but i still see cranes moving, and those lifts going all the way up to the outside roofs. anyone know what's being done right now?
