Red Bull Arena Construction Thread III: Return of the Kaiser.

I had an aerial view of RBA..Well, i was inside a plane landing at Newark airport just yesterday...For a work of art that is not yet finished, it looks great!

 

I'm looking at the webcam today and I believe something has been added on the inside. The northeast corner in the upper bowl. I think we got some seating rows starting to be added. I could be wrong, but if we can get a chopper to take pictures over there I have a good feeling it's all positive.

 

I assume you mean the PATH stop? Yeah, I guess it's ugly. I live in Harrison and take it daily. It works though, which is all I expect a train stop to do, and it's a bargain. It costs less to go from Newark to 33rd street in NYC than it does to ride the subway in NY.

I remember reading at some point that there is a plan to renovate the PATH station and I think add a NJ transit stop. I can't seem to find an article when doing a brief web search though.

I enjoy tailgating as much as the next guy (or gal), but why are you having this conversation with all the great bars and restaurants so near by? I am thinking about about starting at 1 end a few hours before the match and working my way towards the stadium!

ahhh its just so hard to see whats going on now.....im so desperate for a webcam on the inside

 

I'm sure I'll be hitting up the bars and Argentinian bbq in 2010, but the fact remains this, tailgating is buttloads cheaper, you're outdoors enjoying the sun (or rain... in such cases i would prefer bars and what not), you can play you're own music out of your car stereo, in general it's a fun family picnic (with a lot of booze) and not a family lunch. There's a certain comradere that comes with hanging out around a grill that you don't get inside a loud bar or a sit down restaurant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against an arena in an urban setting, I mean I goto MSG a few times a year for the Knicks, I'm just saying it'll take some getting used to not tailgating before a RBNY game

 

There's a time for beer and there's a time for kicking balls. When you do both together it's called a bar fight. All three have their merits.

In answer to a couple of folks questions/observations: a) there are a few aluminum risers as well as upper deck walkways going in; and b) the plastic has been taken down presumably because they will begin putting the "skin" on the clubhouse. I spotted some vertical metal framing being installed for this purpose, good thing the weather has been dry

P.S. The superstructure appears to be 99.9% done. It is a little hard to tell what remains; but I definitely saw the peaking of the roof was done over the upper deck of stands. My guess is there should be no hold up for installing the roof material. In the meantime I hope they do begin adding the skin to the rest of the building, cause that'll be a cool visual

And I'm a man who loves his tailgating. Fact remains I'll take a quality pint over cans in a cooler. Argentinian and Peruvian BBQ sound delicious to me. 10 bucks says there will be tons of bar specials on match days too.

I highly, highly doubt given the average income of the Kearny/Harrison area that we will have triple digit tabs on match days. Don't care how much you're drinking...this ain't downtown NYC.

 

I hope with this big development that Harrison becomes an Urban Enterprise Zone like most of Hudson County and Newark. A New Jersey UAZ means that the area's sales taxes are lowered from the statewide 7 percent to 3.5 percent. Lower tax is always good.

 

just bough my season tix for the last year at the swamp! Come on March 28th and COME ON 2010!!! Stadium is looking better everyday as i drive by

PS: just realized i wont be making the 2nd home game of the season vs RSL because i also have tix to a Yankees game that afternoon doh!

AMEN!! Also, you always get to kick the ball around with friends and family before the game. And when conditions permit, you can grab some nearby guys and play a small sided scrimage. All this, hours of fun, for about $10 a person. No bar or restaurant will ever beat that!

 

Opening to the webcam everyday, it seems that the skeleton and the seating base are close to finished and that they are building the levels inside now.

NSR, interesting read, but a weird ending reference to the new stadium, not sure how it relates to the story, anyway, thought I would share.

 

How it relates to the story? Be it they are from Portugal or Brazil, a soccer stadium is being constructed and that my friend is a touch of home for them!

 

Well hopefully it can be more than a touch of home, and there can be some program with the community and RBNY to rehabilitate them and provide them with a job.....how terrible will it be to be walking over the bridge as some are anticipating to a game and have to witness these poor souls living in these conditions.

 

I just got an idea, there exists a soup kitchen a 1.5 mile walk from the future site of the stadium (Right across from the NJPAC), when RBA is finished, why not serve breakfast/lunch to the hungry, go to pub, go to match? I mean it would be a service to the community and get the RBNY name out there more.

What I'm reading here is that we've got many options.

Tailgate options still exist for the drink in the sun and kick a ball crowd.

Plenty of bars for the drag me to the game and wrap me with that special scarf crowd.

And we can volunteer in a food pantry to serve the hungry and sell tickets to the homeless.

 

Any new photos of the stadium coming out soon? It's been a month since the last set of ones.
