Beside Bastoni and Scalvini, we have Caleb Okoli, Lorenzo Pirola, Mattia Viti, and Giorgio Cittadini. Outside players that are looking in are Matteo Lovato, Matteo Gabbia, Christian Dalle Mura, Andrea Cistana, Filippo Romagna, among others.

 

So sad.

A lovely man and wonderful player; he will be greatly missed.

Kalulu....France will never cap him anyway. Whats the difference between capping him and capping Okoli?

 

That’s a good list, but at the moment none of them is ready for the national team. Many of them aren’t even starters in their club like Okoli, Pirola, Gabbia, Romagna, etc. Among them only Gabbia has some international experience with his club, and a bit also Romagna for his long career with youth national teams. Others play in Serie B and until they don’t make the upgrade it’s hard to consider them for the national team.

 

Both don’t deserve any cap for their national teams. Kalulu anyway played in the Champions League and Okoli not.
France has much better defenders than Kalulu anyway, just think at Upamecano, Konaté, Badiashile, Saliba etc. who are all also very young and already much better than Kalulu.

 

Okoli was born and raised in Italy

 

Central Defender is our weakest position imo which is why Bonucci and Acerbi will still probably play major roles in 2024. We really need some of those players to step up as well as Gatti at Juventus and Casale at Lazio. Also add Canestralli in Serie B and Damielle Ghilardi stood out at the U19's last summer. Alessadro Pio Riccio for Juve U23 team also recently had some good performances during the world cup break and should slot in next year to the senior team as well as the U21 setup.

I think the ship has sailed on Romagna as he had promise but suffered major injuries the last few years. He should be back in for Sassuolo though

Kalulu would start for Italy. Tomori too.

 

Maybe Tomori yes, but not Kalulu.
Kalulu has playes for the Feance national team at the 2020 Olimpyc games, and he was a disaster. At AC Milan he has performed decently also thanks to his teammates, but by himself he isn’t a top player.

 

I agree, i really hope Romagna can recover from his injuries and become a starter at Sassuolo, he was a good prospect in the past.
Gatti is on the right way to make the step-up, he is playing regularly at Juventus.
Casale is another good prospect, even if in the last match he didn’t impress much.
Same for Canestrelli, he is a good prospect but the way for the step-up is still long.
Ghilardi has even a longer way to do, and Pio Riccio in my humble opinion isn’t a good prospect.

 

He might be more effective as a right back

 

I thought I heard Okoli was considering playing for Nigeria as was the udinese left back Udogie. They would be huge gets for the national team if they decide to play for Azzurri

 

Every time I see Cambiaghi for Empoli, I'm impressed. How that kid is not at Atalanta playing meaningful minutes right now I'll never know. Hopefully next year.

I think Okoli switch is more realistic than Udogie's, because Okoli's call-up for Italy is very unlikely.
Udogie is a very strong player, and would be a plus for either Italy or Nigeria. It' s very unlikely he will switch nationality to nigeria, as he declared he wants to play for Italy.

 

Okoli not likely either. Has rep ITA at the u19, u20 and u21. His mother is also on the record saying he wants to play for Italia not Nigeria (after Nigeria tried publicly wanting him).

 

Couple of notes from Sunday..

Both Salavatore Esposito and Hans Nicolossi Caviglia made the jump from Serie B to Serie A this transfer window. Esposito is on loan at Spezia (who never play Italians) and Caviglia is at Salernitana and started right away last week and handled himself pretty well.

Both of these guys were amongst the highest rated B players so good to see them get a call up.

Fazzini for Empoli started as well and had a good game. Baldanzi is pretty much a regular there so no need to add him. Links up well with Caputo.

Fiorentina started Alessandro Bianco in midfield. Never heard of him but was subbed out at haltfime for Castrovilli. Castor might get lost in the shuffle of our talented midfiled but he's a good one for sure. Effortless on the ball.

 

Time to call up Fabio Borini!
