"The future situation of Real Madrid's defense is that Konaté's deal looks promising. They've told the money guy that it's free and he's said it's objective number 1. But who really excites, it's still not known if he'll renew. And he excites."

    Man I love google translate!

From a footballing standpoint, Konaté doesn't excite at all :ninja:

The "free" tag, however, makes the board cream themselves.

Exactly; I'd rather take the gamble on the Rennes's CB than Konate.

Or if we want to spend let's get William Saliba. He's recently rejected their contract offer. :D

Both Saliba and Konate are proven at the highest level for me. Concern with Konate is his Ledly King esque injury record and style of play that's heavily dependent on athleticism.

It's typical Deschamps travesty that Upamecano started so many games for France when they had several better options and not calling up Laporte made him switch to Spain in 2021 as well.

We have a bunch of young CBs at various stages of development. Huijsen and Asencio in the senior squad. Jacobo at Como. Joan and Aguado are highly rated Castilla prospects.

Getting an experienced player at the top level to replace Rudiger makes sense from that standpoint.

What also doesn’t get picked up in Konate’s history is the amount of times he comes off in a game as a precaution.

Is he worth that headache? Especially when we’re looking at Militao hoping nothing goes wrong.

Worst thing with Konate possibly coming on a free, is he'll be on high wages and a longterm contract like Alaba. Huge red flag. Hope Militao proving he's back to his best eliminates the desperation for Konate.

Yes this free transfer thing is going to completely throw the wage structure out of wack. I don't think it's a stretch to say it could quickly pile up into a Barca banckruptcy type of situation.

Probably one of the reasons why the club is so reluctant to give Vini a deserved pay raise proportional to his statuts at the club. It kind of starts there but when I see the pay scale and Fed making half of what Mbappe does, it's a slap in the face there's no way in the world he's half the player. I know Fed has a reputation for being a worker who doesn't complain but that doesn't mean this type of thing doesn't make him feel slighted and unapreciated.

Mbappe makes what Rodrygo, Camavinga and Tchoemeni make combined, in what world is that fair. Then you could have Konate and Trent come in from Liverpool and having never won a single title with the club already making more money than Carvajal and Militao on day one.

If I were the club I would be scouting for defenders and midfielders.

Konate should stay where he is. We just need to find the next good young defender like Dean or if Bastoni becomes available go for him lol.

The last few games I’ve watched Konate, I don’t really see a problem. He’s been quite solid and if he’s free, he’ll be a welcome addition to the squad. He’ll make us stronger not weaker.

If we’re getting a CB, I’d want us to go for Gvardiol.

We're essentially replacing two broken CBs with another injury horror show.

Konaté was very good last season, winning the EPL with Liverpool. He was atrocious in the Nations League with France and ranged from ok to pure rubbish with Liverpool in 23/24, he lost his starting spot in the last 2-3 months of the season. A one season wonder? Maybe.

He will only be considered "free" by Liverpool. A handsome signing bonus will potentially come his way, rendering a injury-prone CB one of the top earners at the club, essentially unmovable if he flops. An all too familiar scenario.

We can do better than Konaté and we should.

In summer 2021 when we let both Ramos and Varane go, the only cb arrival was Alaba who spent the majority of his career playing LB.

I remember the feeling of despair I had at the position heading into that season, and then we went on to win the UCL.

There were also plenty of concerns with Rudiger when he arrived as well. I recall most fans believing he was only good in a 3atb system. He had hardly proved himself at a top level until the final couple seasons at Chelsea at age 28-29. He was being benched by Lampard at the age of 26-27.

None of these free transfers have been for best in the world in that position except for Mbappe.

Alaba's transfer has since failed, but I think I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the club if they value Konate. It's not like we're getting anything out of Rudiger and Alaba right now anyway. Are there better cb's in the world? Of course, but he's clearly a very talented centerback and in the Madrid context, he could thrive.

Why I bother doing that? That's like saying sending Miltao to the bin because of his last two ACL's.

The facts are, his last injury was March 2024 and people here are reaching and clutching at straws

Konaté missed 45 games – the equivalent of 1 complete season – in the last 3 years due to injuries, including 8 games in December 2024 and bro be like it's just straws.

Two injuries in 2024 and we're in nearly in 2026.

    You big drama queen :D

Point still stands - he's been healthy since 2024. He's fine on a free. :coffee:

Some people will justify everything the RM board approves; they're the same people who turn a blind eye to government corruption or believe the politicians are actively trying to help the 99%. :D;)
