One injury to Huijsen and our empty central defense depth will be on full display.

Against lesser sides we can get away with it I think, but we will see.

True. But Rudiger/Asencio/Alaba go full bozo and suddenly we're 1-0 down against a side that defends with 11. We must suffer and sh!t.

We are keen to sign Konate according to Romano, JFD and journos close to Pool like Joyce so I reckon Rudiger won't be renewed. Doubt he'd want to stay as 4th choice CB either if we get Konate.

The disrespect some posters here (not related to last post) are giving to Rüdiger is just stunning to me. He was our best CB for long periods of time, he sacrificed himself and played injured just because our management didn't want to invest and now when he still isn't fully recovered (and yes, he is currently playing below expectations) some people are already selling/benching him.

Our backline looks healthy on paper, but I really do fear that Militao will get injured again and that Konate isn't the gem people are making him out to be.

He's not a very endearing player so when the performances drop he won't have too much support or credit with the fans, i think that's a very natural situation that happens everywhere in sports.

Saying that player x is severely and consistently underperforming is not disrespect.

The warranted critism of his play and mental status are independent of his previous form, x doesn't get a pass or an automatic starting place because he played well in the past.

Also, Rudiger is already on the bench because he's not one of our top 2 CBs. RM won't sell him. His contract will run out in the summer and the club isn't likely renew a declining 33 year old CB.

People here are not saying Konaté is a "gem", far from it ROFL

Amazing player and a great transfer overall.

I love Rudiger and hope he recovers to his best and we award the sacrifice he made last year with a year extension, also because I feel he still has a lot to give (at a very high level). And no, I'm not naive, I know he earns a lot and I know the club is a commercial entity that has other interests, but it also benefits the club and its reputation if it shows good employership and does right by him, like it did with Militao (and Carvajal).

And yeah, I don't buy the 'fans don't like him' stuff. My impression is that he is well-liked by the club, the team, and fans.

I think it's just going to be a simple reality that the club will prefer a 27 year old Konate or a 26 year old Guehi than a 33 year old Rudiger. Antonio has been a stellar signing and a Champion, but he has to pick up his form tremendously to a level that is doubtful he may still have to be the more practical option compared to the younger counterparts on the 2026 free agent market.

Rüdiger's done some not-entirely-cool stuff before with people who aren't in much of a position to defend themselves.

When you look at the squad available for tomorrow, seems strange that defense is the area people are worrying about being too thin.

(That's with two defenders and two midfielders injured, Rudiger, Mendy, Jude, Cama.)

Barely a shell of a midfield. MF was the strength for Madrid during the last decade or so.

And ironically, if Militao or Huijsen get hurt, there is a possibility that Tchouameni plays at CB over anyone in that long defenders list

KCM, Kovacic, Isco were CM options in 2015-17 iirc. 2 injuries then and we have 3 in squad list. James was an AM like Brahim whom ZZ didn't fancy as well.

His injury doesn't help his case, poor guy.

His attitude is simply fixed on aggression and intimidation. Simply not a very likable guy, we're fighting to keep his ban low and he makes jokes about throwing objects at referees and fighting opponents.

I respect him a lot because he comes from a very rough place but his attitude isn't very heartwarming. Popular players usually have a certain charm to them that his character stands completely opposite of.

Rudiger is a warrior, but he's definitely also a bully. I caught many behind the scenes/away from action footage of him even bullying our guys window dressed as "teasing".

He's got the kind of mentality where you've got to stand up to him for him to leave him alone, again, i find his story incredible, but you always run a system with a low grace period when you are this on intense all the time.

Unless Vini and Rodrygo wake up soon, we might have to start looking for a star attacker next summer. Right now it’s a carry job by Kylian.
