It's going to be a good excuse for some posters here for the next 2-3 seasons.

We will stop using as an excuse once the team is cleansed from the lazy mentalities they've developed under Carlo's tenure. Be factual, he wasn't a disciplinarian willing to sacrifice players for the greater good. As long as the team was grinding out wins he was more than happy to defend them and claim everything was fine. He allowed them to get away with a lot as long we were winning.

It reminded me of Valverde's Barcelona tenure, he gave the players too much freedom/power and eventually it lead to his and their downfall.

Carlo also won a league and CL double with this team.

So far, Xabi has just played to his rule book (sitting deep, waiting for the ball etc) - no mention of that by you yesterday.

Konate's injuries over the last few years:

In the 2019/20 season, he missed 38 games due to 2 injuries, being out for 176 days.
In the 2020/21 season, he missed 24 games due to 2 injuries, totaling 157 days out.
In the 2022/23 season, he missed 29 games due to 4 different injuries, totaling 145 days out.
In the 2023/24 season, he missed 8 games due to 2 injuries (thigh and muscle problems) over 34 days.
In the 2024/25 season, he missed 8 games due to 1 injury (knee injury) over 34 days.

Is this really the guy to help us solidify our defense?

I am 99% sure we are not signing another CB this summer. Carreras will be signed and maybe................ maybe if the opportunity presents itself a CM but after Carreras i would advise all the fans to consider our summer closed.

I don't think our squad is complete by any means but i also don't think it's in super bad shape either. We have so much talent, young and old, the coach needs to get the max out of these guys. With some rest and a mental reset you will see a few players looking better when the season starts. Even though this tiny break isn't enough in my opinion. This next season will be full of ups and downs i think.

As as aside, I have never thought Militao is "finished" as my brother Boeder likes to say about our CBs. Mark this post now, he'll be a starter again and on merit. He had ACL surgery he didn't break his back into 10 pieces. Rudiger will be just fine too. All he needs is rest, physical and mental and to understand and absorb the new on field dynamic. Alaba unfortunately, he shouldn't be relied upon. But expecting Eder to be 100% by December isn't some unrealistic thing. Rudiger even before that.

we quickly forgot what happened last season; we are left without proper RB because we all thought we have enough options with Lucas and Carvajal, but with Asensio emerging as major issue and Rudiger's performance, it is very important that we need cover our Cb position with one more signing,

we can debate, but one considers learning from mistakes; otherwise, we would have same fake as last season

A player who missed 100 games in the last two seasons can still look good, but can he play well?

LOL, isn't that what we almost always do for transfers? Sounds like we are already coping for not being able to negotiate them down. Oh well.

I'm kinda ambivalent about this signing, we need a LB but I am not sure this is much of an upgrade to be honest....

So our response to Benfica playing hard ball so they could keep Carreras in the CWC and only start him one match was to give them one of our youth players and pay full price??

    Lol

If Rodrygo leaves and we're left with Vini-Mbappe as main offensive weapons, maybe what both of them need is real competition...espcially Vini.

Get another proper striker and have them battle it out.

I'm not comfortable with going with Vini as an undisputed starter anymore....the performance and attitude isn't there. If he stays, he needs a major kick up his *ass.

Mbappe does as well but I know Kylian in a well functioning team is 40+ goals every season. Vini is not that.

How much would Isak go for?

Time for Real Madrid to behave like Real Madrid.... get some top players up front and have them fight it out. Tired of this accommodating players crap....it has ran its course.

Well, Carreras had a contract until 2029 and his release clause (which was only available June 30th and after) was 50 million. A release clause has to be paid in full up front, not in installments.

So yeah Benfica played hard ball on us, but it's not like we had any leverage prior to the CWC

we need him man... if what the scouts are saying is true, he is a much better defender than Fran and has better decision making in attack. Could be very key for Xabi especially that Trent is not really the "bomb forward" type of fullback.

I hope the scouts are right.

I don't know if he's going to bring much more on the opponent end of the pitch, but I'm very confident he's going to be more sound defensively and also bringing the ball out of the back. Seems to have that pausa where Fran is always frenetic and panicky.

Seems very overpriced at least we are going to pay it in installments.

Ngl Benfica made us look like suckers, this is the best possible outcome for them, they kept their player for the CWC, got a new player and are still getting the same amount of money, be it over 2 3 years.

It was always going to be the release clause. Just like with Coentrao in 2011 (30 M) after a month of negotiations.

Wonder how much is the buyback clause for Obrador as Grimaldo and Carreras did well at Benfica.

Rodrygo still wants to TRY and win his place at Real Madrid.

He will ONLY considering leaving if he’s told DIRECTLY. @geglobo

*IF* Rodrygo leaves Real Madrid, it will NOT be his own decision. @geglobo

If Rodrygo is willing to stay without guaranteed starting spot, we should consider it. Especially given Vini's performance on the left for a while.

I think Fran looked better during most of this tournament and then this week with the return of the dynamic duo it was back to 6s and 7s. But I agree Fran doesn't inspire much confidence when we are on our heels even if recently he has looked better.

Im more worried about Rudiger and Asencio display at CWC...they were such reliable defenders before..I dont think Franco can immediately be thrown in Modric's footsteps...another experience midfielder is needed.
