Getting Rodri would pnly work with Fede imo. Because getting him will force either he or Tcho higher up where either isnt comfortable. Rodri would be perfect for Fede. But we'd need two hardworkers next to Rodri for obvious reasons. Only Fede wont do.

 

Bellingham is very good on the ball. If you look at his touches inside the box against Norway for his goal, each touch is perfect to make sure the defenders cannot cover.

He just doesn’t think like a ball retainer - he focuses on making runs to collect the ball and attacking the goal asap, which we don’t need (or haven’t needed for a couple of seasons) but England definitely do.

 

His technical ability is elite in tight spaces. He tends to hold onto the ball longer closing down the passing lanes while playing as CM. He should play closer to the final third.

Bringing this up again after his performance again France….compared to Tchouameni’s lol…

 

Its sad we missed on Olmo..he is a joy to watch for Spain..unlike Bellingham he gets rid of the ball quickly...he has good back up in Ruiz and Rodri and quick wingers Baena and Yamal..Its not that Bellingham is a bad player just Olmo is maybe more unpredictable and needs less space to create something

 

Maybe Flo goes for Rodri if he wins the title with Spain and grabs media attention.

When I see him I just think he has absolutely everything to do that Modric role for us, but he just doesn’t want to do it.

He wants the ball at his feet and he wants goals, which is fair enough, but man would he solve a lot of problems for us if he agreed to take on less of a goalscoring role.

 

He could mature into that role with age.

 

He could do it right now, he just doesn’t want to. Once you have the taste of being the tip of the spear, I assume all the poncing around in midfield moving the ball to the attackers ahead of you is just not the same.

I personally like touching the ball hundreds of times in a game but two touch each time. Some players just don’t like to do that.

 

Maybe I missed that during the last 3 seasons with RM.

 

Maybe you’re looking at the wrong things? His touch and technique is fantastic, especially for his age.

Form and his function on a football pitch for Madrid, we can argue about separately.

 

His touch is on a spectrum of Zidane-esque to Illaramendi, he certainly has moments, few and far between but definitely there..more often than not he'll twist and turn, think over and over instead of making the quick pass, many times he will get dispossessed with relative ease considering his physique/build. His passing game/creativity isn't good either.

Again, my sample size is the last 3 seasons with the club.

 

If Rodri wins the WC, Perez could change his mind, City might not. But even in an optimal situation, Valverde will need to be sold.

No way you have Bernardo and Rodri on the bench while Valverde (untouchable + somehow still captain), Tchouameni (just renewed) and Bellingham (WC star) are undisputed starters.

I think we sign Rodri and play a 4231 consisting of:

ST - Mbappe
LW - Vini
AM - Bellingham
RW - Valverde
CM - Tchou
CM - Rodri

The above can also turn into a hybrid 442 as well in defensive transition.

it’s a long season, plenty of minutes for Bernardo Silva, Camavinga etc etc

Add in Bastoni as CB and this is a great squad
