Wait whaat..... Cucurella?!? That was unexpected. I expected Mou to get a LB but Cucurella was unexpected. Good addition. Mou is about to change the whole backline piece by piece. Love it, our defence has been scandalous and none of the purchases really convinced last season apart from Trent sort of.

Selling them won't be the hard part because there will be plenty of clubs interested, especially in Cama. The real problem is getting them to leave.

I think they are a bad fit because both aren't good building from the back. We had Pepe, Ramos, Alaba, Nacho as one CB who's comfortable on the ball in the seasons we won big.

Schlotterbeck and Konate would be a balanced CB pairing on paper with Huijsen as 3rd CB. Play Rudiger when Konate needs rest if former's knee is alright.

Cucurella and Enzo wanted to leave. Guess Chelsea have to sell with no CL money coming in. Probably ran out of of assets to sell to themselves to circumvent FFP.

Always hated Cucurella and I dont see that changing. He simulates and whines like peak Barca players under Guardiola. And 60 million for another stop gap solution, at fullback moreso, is poor piece of business. We could have done better (and younger) for less money (ex. Nathaniel Brown or Udogie). Now we spent 100+ million for two leftbacks in two years.

Strongly dislike the signings so far, they are super random no matter how much you twist to rationalize them, and the team is becoming even less likeable with these guys. Sure the "good" fans around will get very indignant as usual in their condemnation, and I can already anticipate "go cheer for someone else then", but you know thats not going to happen. Sorry but not sorry, you will simply have to learn to endure dissent. I dont like the direction of the club and theres a difference between a fan and a cheerleader.

I'd get Bouaddi, a CB and a n9 next and call it a day

Maybe 2nd, but there’s a huge gap between Nuno Mendes and every other LB in football.

These signings will be judged on what titles we win in next two seasons. Konate, Dumfries, Bernardo and Cucurella are meant to contribute for 2-4 years at RM.

I don't get the Mendes hype. Every time I see him play against a top team he looked nothing more than decent.

He's only 25 and I rate his long range passing skills. Will be expensive, but can contribute for 8+ seasons.

Man Xabi still getting screwed over by Florentino, if that's what the payback (destroy your career) for being part of the pro-Mourinho crowd back in the day - then what exactly is the plan for Mourinho whose career was already thuroughly destroyed.

Mou wants to build a team of the most hated players in the world. We already have Vini and Kylian, and we're adding Cucurella to the mix. Why not also bring in Dibu Martínez as the backup goalkeeper and Enzo while we're at it?

I have a feeling Xabi will sign Carreras from us and we’ll break even.

That'd be disappointing. Hoping Cucurella signing is to strengthen the squad like Coentrao back in the day than a lateral move selling Carreras.

FWIW, JFD said Mou doesn't count on Fran and Mendy.

Both Fran and Mendy contracts expire next summer, so both probably willing to play chicken with the club to get that Mbappe free transfer signing bonus at another club.

On the other hand why would Carreras leave now, he's the youngest player with the best prospect for a long term future at the club.

Probably a 4 LB season at Real Madrid but won't be surprised if Mou's playing with 6 or 7 defenders at times so he will probably need the bodies anyway.

Also we got Inter's starting RB to compete with Trent. Cucurella to compete with Carreras makes sense. Fran for the most part in 3 seasons didn't look convincing as back up LB against lower table teams.

Mendy’s contract expires in 2028, not next summer.

I think it was 2027 + 1 year depending on the number of games played.

So in best case scenario one of the LBs we bought the last two summers for 50+ million is a backup. Which one is better for that, the young guy or the older guy?

Just doesnt make sense however way you frame it. You say everything is worth a title but I cant agree with that.

Club had a fetish with that even in non Mourinho years. Best case scenario we had Marcelo and Coentrao (2011-14 version). In other occasions, 30 ME flop Danilo and 35 ME flop Odri as back up for Carva. Though we recouped Danilo fee thanks to Pep.

These journo's genuinely have no inside intel. Absolutely no one was linking us to Cucurella even 24 hours ago.

Formidable, experienced signing. Another one stolen from our league rivals as well. Reliable player
