Nico Paz isn't confirmed. He could stay at Como and if he arrives, I see Brahim leaving. Muñoz plays predominantly on the LW or CAM not RW. None of these players offer anything close to Bernardo's skillset. I expect 2 players from the midfield to leave..
Silva was never one of my favorites in terms of style, but it's undeniable how good he is at what he does. Technically he's a tier 1 player, he's smart and it's a MISSION to get the ball off him. We badly needed press resistance and IQ....and we just got some. Also...dude played 38 PL games last season....one of those super fit marathon runner types lol. Konate + Dumfries + Silva for 20m in terms of transfer fee.......say 40m maybe in total if you include signing bonuses is GREAT BUSINESS so far imo.
Same, not very enthusiastic because of the age issue. I think he arrives from the World Cup burned out but Mou forces him onto the field every game because of ego and not being able to admit a mistake. Then he gives one good year in 2027 before he becomes irrelevant getting pushed out of the lineup by younger players and a new manager post Mourinho that doesn’t count on him.
All indications that Paz is staying another season at Como and Munoz close to joining Newcastle in a permanent deal. Makes sense why Mou wants another midfielder in Mateus Fernandes as well. We lost Modric, Kroos in previous seasons and Ceballos won't play any important minutes under Mou even if he refuses to leave.
I'm 50/50 on the Bernardo Silva signing. He's a fantastic player, but a 32 year old is still a 32 year old. Well at least he'll get a 2+1 year deal.
Its not that hes 32 year old, its that his legs are shot. But its a Mou type of player and Mendes type of commission and free type of Florentino signing so its a lock.
We needed a guy who can control pace and tiempo of play. Bernardo is exactly that. Definitely understand your concern but think about it like this; we needed someone in midfield who can retain and recycle. We needed a veteran as well because Arda isn't there yet physically. With Bernardo we get a veteran who can do the above and also go from sitting deeper rotating into attack. He can give the final ball so he has flexibility and under Mourinho we will be compact and countering... something which would protect against possible shortcomings Bernardo may have
Mateus is a DM I think and it's a good idea to get him. We only have Tchouameni there, one injury to him and we have Camavinga on the pitch that is if he stays.
this is what I see as well, I really like this signing on paper edit: I like Paz a lot but I'd be ok with him staying another year especially with CL football available to him.
Right All the running has been (and will be) done by Tchouameni, Fede and Jude. Our shortcomings with Arda was his experience and lack of physicality. I believe Paz could have the same struggles. Both players need more time to step up to that level. Bernardo is at the level. Has a good year or two left in his legs and gives a perfect transition window for Arda/Paz taking over in near future.
That's a reasonable view. I looked at it from the perspective that Bernardo isn't the only midfield signing and we would add another CM. Let's see what happens, but this is a good start.
To be fair Silva has never really relied on his athleticism, I don't think he'd have made it as an elite player if he had!
Bernardo Silva played almost 2900 minutes in PL last season. He probably has couple of years left at RM level.
I am kinda meh on the Bernardo signing. I LOVE the fact that he brings elite experience and can cycle the ball in midfield at a high level still. I am not super worried about his age, in fact i see that a positive because it doesn't mean we are blocking Arda too much. Silva isn't gonna be auto stater, i think Jose will rotate between the two. On the other hand, could we have done better? I think so. Even if it was a younger player but with a higher ceiling. edit: I personally think Nico should stay at Como one more year. Also, it's gonna hurt to see Victor Munoz in the EPL (future Arsenal signing mark my words). Was there no way for us to keep him at the club?
This team lacked leadership from top to bottom last season. With Kroos and Modric leaving, Alaba a non factor and injuries to important senior players like Dani and Rudiger, we were left with kids running the show. I think the squad needed maturity and These signings bring that.

Couple things, it’s good for Paz to play CL but another year away from RM makes it more likely he doesn’t return. More suitors, more people in his ear, etc… Mateus Fernandes is not a DM at all, he is a CM. Munoz can and has played RW and his pace and power ate optimal as a wing player, even if he isn’t playing his preferred LW all the time. We don’t have a player like him beyond Vini, he could be very useful as he has different skills to the redundant Brahim/Arda/Silva/Jude AM party crew.
Maybe Munoz is thinking like Paz. He made it to Spanish NT squad because he played a lot at Osasuna. A rotational role at RM might not be enough to get into Spanish NT with several attacking options. Newcastle are selling key players so he can fight for starting spot there. Guess the best we can hope is first refusal option incase he turns into a top level player at NU.
Oh I understand why he’d go but I’d hope like you that we maintain something in the deal to keep him as an option.
Enzo is keen to join RM and has experience playing big games at World Cup though Chelsea have been an underwhelming side in Boehly era. And he will cost 140 ME. Mateus has no experience at CL level and not part of Portuguese NT. Will cost 90 ME. Let's see if World Cup throws another option.
