Madrid mostly buys players at discounts or free. A player like Mbappe arriving on a free is something that will rarely happen again.

It’s no different but there’s no chance Barca is offering more than 150, and chances were Atletico would have bent over for Barca at some point and sell him for a 100M plus variables. This now boxes both of them.

Right now the club is reportedly looking at Gvardiol, Calafiori, Mateus Fernandes, Enzo, among others. I can imagine the price for these guys went up a notch or two in the event Perez comes knocking..

Bernardo Silva is only free agent option we're considering at the moment.

Get Schlotterbeck for the buyout, Bernardo for free. Mateus is already overpriced at 90 ME due to PL inflation.

    Does it?

MARCA saying no offer was made, the conversation stopped at the inquiry about Alvarez's situation. The Athletic saying Atleti didn't perceive the interest as genuine.

Julian will force an exit after the WC imo and if the player wants Barcelona, he will push for it and ultimately Atleti will accept a figure less than €150m and closer to Barcelona's original €120m.

But we have fairly incontrovertible evidence from today no less that Atletico is not in any way more inclined to negotiate with Barca. Their "official statement" went out of its way to bring up Barcelona apropos of nothing, just in order to put us both in the same box of refusal to negotiate.

Atletico doesn't want to sell him for 150 ME, it's pretty simple, not 4-D chess. And thank goodness, 150 ME for Alvarez is outrageous.

Sorry, I just don't see any evidence that this accomplished anything more than fulfilling an utterly hollow campaign promise, as many predicted, just to keep up an appearance of making a promise similar to Riquelme's empty promises.

Who cares really? I have never understood the relevance of "agreeing to terms" with a player before agreeing to terms with their club. How many times has the sticking point been the player terms rather than transfer fee? Surely more deals have fallen through due to a failed medical than personal terms, they're practically an afterthought, particularly when the destination is Real Madrid (in this situation, the same city no less!).

Siro Lopez claiming RM keeping tabs on Hincapie who can play CB and LB.

Wasn't this guy belittled just last summer when Arsenal signed him for €50m?

You can't say a word about Atleti being stupid if you enjoyed it when they did the same public gimmick to Barca by the way.

I just feel it's unprofessional and cheap.

Some club might get Vini next summer for free. I think that this will happen more and more frequently in the future with such high transfer fees - players will simply run down their contract and get big signing bonus and better salary.

Despite some of the questionable decisions our management has made over the past few years, the club still conducts itself professionally and respectfully in transfer negotiations. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, we offered €10 million to bring TAA in a month earlier and €200 million for Mbappé in 2021 so that PSG wouldn't lose him for free.

That's nowhere near comparable to the way your club consistently tries to lowball teams when pursuing their players. We don't know if Barcelona even made an offer for Julian or it was only playing stupid games.

In this case, we've submitted an official opening offer that reportedly matches the valuation Atlético were asking for, according to several well-respected journalists.
So, yes, it is quite unprofessional on their side to mock another club for making a reasonable offer.

edit: Paying 15ME to Benfica for Mourinho in 2026 can be added to the examples as he was probably going to be fired soon anyways.

Both Barcelona and Madrid have approached Atletico in the same way any club would approach them if they are interested in their player.

I find their response childish and impossibly stupid in both cases, especially considering the fact that the player isn't making too big of a secret of his desire to leave the club.

We are in an urgent need for a "here we go" on the CB spot.

That will calm things down lol. The overreaction is at its peak right now.

    Schlotterbeck, Gvardiol, Calafiori ?
