Starting to read about doubts of the return of Nico Paz. Being brutally honest, I know with our failures in recent seasons, it's intuitive to think it would be a mistake not to bring him back. But just because he hasn't been with us and has been reportedly excelling at Como, doesn't necessarily mean he's better than what we've got. I genuinely believe Guler is a better player than him in practically every fact. Of course Jude as well when it comes to attacking midfielders. Sales need to be made, if we end up selling Paz for 70-80 million, that's a big success of La Fabrica.
Jude is better than Paz as AM. Won't say Arda is better in all facets. Paz is better shooter and stronger physically. But even Arda might not be a regular starter if we add a starting quality player in midfield or attack so Paz being hesitant is understandable.
I think Guler took many leaps this year in his development. As a tempo setter, as a progressive passer, even positionally he has expanded his versatility getting better and better defensively. Paz has more G/A but he was playing a false 9 for much of the year, much closer to goal than Guler. I'm not sure his technique in finishing is any better than Arda, we just tasked Arda with playing deeper. He even finally showed out on big stages, being massive in the CL knockouts. I'll put it this way, of all the midfielders in the roster, the two I would keep at all costs are Jude and Arda. I would sell any of the rest before I would sell Guler.
JFD: West Ham's crisis opens the door for Mateus Fernandes Jorge Mendes, the agent of Fernandes and Mourinho, is already working on a deal that will not be easy, but is a priority for the manager. In recent days, the London club has suffered an unexpected blow with the departure of its president amidst a series of complex issues, creating a highly tense situation at the administrative level. This, coupled with relegation, has prompted many players to seek new clubs and avoid the purgatory of the Championship. Manchester United and Chelsea were the first to make moves regarding his signing. As has been published in England, the initial estimate is 90 million euros , but all transfers between English football teams tend to increase the price, which is not the same as when the operation is with teams from the rest of Europe. Jorge Mendes, the agent of Fernandes and Mourinho, is already working on a deal that won't be easy , but is a priority for the manager, though not the only one. Mourinho has complete confidence in the Portuguese player's ability to develop, and his growth seems to have no limits, which has caught the attention of the new Real Madrid coach. https://as.com/futbol/primera/la-crisis-del-west-ham-abre-la-puerta-a-mateus-fernandes-f202606-n/
Not bringing back Nico will end up as a massive failure for the club...he is going to be another Mata,Hakimi Keeping faith in this failed midfield,Brahim etc is a recipe for another horrendous season Arda better than Nico..why because Neuer gave him the ball....Arda was a ghost for months after Xabi left and in every match thread people were screaming for him to get subbed off Nico is a lot more direct, dynamic and stronger than Arda he fit us better and you will see it...not brining him back will be a fn failure
I'll admit I didn't watch a lot of West Ham. And it gives me pause for concern that he didn't make the Portuguese squad for the World Cup. But I keep seeing links that Mourinho wants Fernandes so I need someone that genuinely knows to tell me more about him. Just 1 season in the premier league is not a huge sample size.
If Arda can develop his reading of the game and positioning in central midfield, then he can become elite imo. I don’t think his ability to find space off the ball is one of his strongest points, Pitarch has a better natural ability to do this than him, but obviously Arda is head and shoulders above him as an overall player. The tempo setting of the game comes from those deeper positions where Arda was often not finding spaces. Paz is a sick player as well, but he very often finds himself in identical positions that Arda does. It’ll be tough to play both at the same time in their favourable positions. Both a real talents. A good manager will be able to fit at least two out of Jude, Arda, Paz consistently as starters imo.
99 out of 100 teams would take Guler with their eyes closed. The one that wouldn't is Real Madrid, and have him already. He's a fantastic talent.
He has 2 seasons in Premier League and both ended up with relegation for his team. Before that he has played for Estoril on loan from Sporting. Not an international player. His only 'strength' is being represented by Jorge Mendes, thats why Mourinho 'wants' him.
We thought the same thing about Ozil a far better player in every way imaginable.....and he ended up at Wengers Arsenal and the rest is history Lets not overate Arda ,we don't even know if he is a 10,RW or will play deeper in midfield at this point
He has a level of pausa and vision that our other midfielders don't have. He has the pass that can unlock a block, the pass that can hit Vini or Kylian in stride. Just turned 21 a couple months ago, Guler's potential is still through the roof for me.
I wouldn’t base anything off of a player not making the Portugal team. Roberto Martinez is an idiot. He also chose Nelson Semedo who is semi-retired in Turkey over Alberto Costa, who was in the Liga Portugal team of the season at RB for Porto. Just one of his many shocking decisions.
Going back in for Schlotterbeck would be interesting. a core of 5 CB's including Schlotterbeck, Huijsen, Rudiger, Konate, with Militao recovering would be a massive improvement in depth.
Man, I always think about the CALMA through ball to CR7 vs Barca when I think Ozil. He was so good https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ppGTAex7gv8?feature=share
Jude is the bigger 'name' but his output in the last two and a half seasons has been trash and I'm not talking about goals. Unless of course you think running alone cuts it. I don't think he's as good as I thought he was. Comparing him with a player in a weaker league and a mid-sized club with substantially less pressure and media scrutiny is unfair.
I haven't seen him play either. Has two seasons experience in PL as regular starter albiet for relegated teams.
Militao is recovering in time for his next injury. This guy's knees are done. He shouldn't be consider a depth option at this point.

He's going to be on the roster so making him the 5th choice is the appropriate way to bolster the position.
Let's be brutally honest. If we compare Arda's progression against our other younger players under 23 who have been at the club for over two years: Jude & Camavinga, he makes those two look like traffic cones.
Paz value will go up if he shines in CL at Como. RM has a buyout clause valid next summer too, but him coming back is unlikely then as well given we have Jude and Arda as AMs. So next summer might be the time to cash in on 50% rights RM have.
Interesting There have been a lot of midfielders linked to Real Madrid recently, but the NUMBER ONE option for José Mourinho is Mateus Fernandes. He believes Mateus has BOTH quality and a spirit of sacrifice for the team, which José considers VERY important. @jfelixdiaz 🚨 There have been a lot of midfielders linked to Real Madrid recently, but the NUMBER ONE option for José Mourinho is Mateus Fernandes. He believes Mateus has BOTH quality and a spirit of sacrifice for the team, which José considers VERY important. @jfelixdiaz pic.twitter.com/zqmVYUY94X— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) June 9, 2026
