After hearing the rumor that David Beckham is planning on calling his franchise Miami United and with Man City already in the fold in New York, MLS has fabricated a plastic rivalry from another league. This is most disturbing. What is the solution? Simple.. The Rebrand Cup! Voted on by internet fans who think the team name is crappy, the combination of highest voting tally and lowest average attendance and points would be used to determine finalist and hosting. The loser of said cup game must change name, thus alleviating the league of copycat poser teams that are becoming more and more common. Think of it like relegation, only the team is not going anywhere. To make it fair for teams that are stuck with unoriginal owners, the cup should be held every four years, to give the fans time to gel with the brand.
Determined by all fans? Fewest points, lowest home attendance, internet's perception of a bad name? Us Revs fans are going to have to change all our songs
Well, I mean, Chivas' 22 points a season, universal disdain for the branding, and STH group of 93 guys make them ripe for the picking.
The Whitecaps and Earthquakes may get in there, but only because the olde NASL folk don't have interweb access
