    yep
Guardian: The most unfortunate result of this fiasco is that Trump’s antics brought intense scrutiny on to the NABJ convention – a professional conference that provides information and resources to a marginalized group. CNN, CSPAN and PBS livestreamed the panel, and after 10 days of the Harris campaign successfully dominating the news, the conversation has now shamefully pivoted into rightwing talking points about Harris’s racial background. Instead of talking about her platform and policies, we are now in a media circus litigating racial purity. The talk was a victory for a Trump campaign that seeks to conquer via constant confusion and deflection.

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) “is drawing renewed scrutiny over his past remarks that the American gymnast Simone Biles, who won another Olympic all-around gold medal on Thursday, showed weakness when she withdrew from the previous Games because of a mental health issue,” the New York Times reports.

Said Vance, on Fox News in 2021: “I think it reflects pretty poorly on our sort of therapeutic society that we try to praise people, not for moments of strength, not for moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments.”

the man is almost as certifiable as his running mate.

The more Vance talks and the more old quote that are dredged up the better.

normally a VP pick is not relevant - but this psycho is providing a lot of material.

indeed... maybe they got blindsided by something like "Flamin Gloves of Sigmund"
    https://www.google.com/search?q=sei...ate=ive&vld=cid:866038b6,vid:L4wWE5r0sPE,st:0

joking aside - there is something deeper at play here though.

Fundamentally, it's the confluence of these two filial problems - (1) unanswered talk radio creating decades of absurdity into a false-meaning as accepted reality. That was the basis of the stupidity stockpile for the subsequent unleashing of the reservoir and the social media broken-dam of what had been the bulwark against the proliferation of basically stupid ideas....

other countries have managed to deal somewhat more effectively with this kind of misinformation propaganda - but the natural historical isolationalism of the US outside the bigger cities has really caused a big problem here this past 40 years or so.....

For someone to go to that meeting, with the FABJ, and say some of the things he said... wow, that takes a special amount of self-centered narcissism. For that person to sit there and at a nationally (internationally) televised interview and 1) moan about how he is being treated SO BADLY for being asked to answer and address what he's said over the years, and 2) instead use his time to outright claim to have a better understanding of someone else's racial identity than they do themselves...

Is it just me or did he just self-immolate himself with ~15% of the population? How can anyone look at this person and think they would be able to lead this country?

Outright racism and nativism. You really can't excuse them anymore. People who vote for Trump at this point have to acknowledge that they are okay with some racism in their political leaders. Can't really argue about it at this point...

That's the key bit for me. At one point I could rationalize voting for Trump because you didn't like the other candidate and/or you generally vote Republican/conservative, but after seeing him "in action", both in and out of office, anyone that would vote for him has no plausible deniability when it comes to racism, xenophobia, etc. Not to mention the childlike tantrums, incessant exaggeration, and the plethora of certifiable lies.

the intensely sad part is that many of his supporters - even some people of colour! - view that behaviour as a sign of strength and don't even consider the implications.

erasing the influences that a cult can have one person takes a huge concerted effort by experts and their family and friends. how in God's name does a country accomplish that for millions of people?

This is why I’ve been harping on in the last few of my postings that he’s become yesterday’s man and his shtick is getting so old and boring (just like mine! :D).

Sure, the muppets are all going to vote for him, but he needs more than muppets. He needs independents, marginal voters, those not happy with the status quo (who is?), those who can’t stand the BAU aspect to American politics.

In ‘16 and ‘20 he got the benefit of the doubt to a large extent. But those benefit-of-the-doubt voters now need or want reasons to vote for him. Benefit of the doubt is no longer good enough. And he and his campaign are finding reasons daily to piss people off and shove them away.

Because for some (not the completely mad who wear diapers outside there pants as a Badge of Honour, but the merely intellectually thirsty for drooling nonsense brigade.... ) as was the terrible propagandized horror of the communist-religion-hating-master-criminal Hilary Clinton, so will there be the ham-fisted painted variant portrait of 'the' Kamala Harris.
As emerged the great Lex Biden Luthor... etc....
How much of any of that poison nonsense can hold water with any thinking, rational centrist or independent or non-aligned woman against the post-Nov 4th history and malaise of Donald J. Trump and all the sickness that surrounds him - is a question that shouldn't anymore require asking, but still does to some weird extent in (at least) the spoken minds of the National media....

I dunno- maybe ask Burning 24/7.
He seems to think (or at least up til a week or two ago) that it wouldn't be any kind of huge problem for the democratic state to surf atop of.... Trump President Variant #2
Mind you, self delusion has always been a potent enemy of the common good.

"have to acknowledge" being the problem with that statement.

Try asking Teddy Boy Cruz or Josh Hawley for a statement of purpose on that, just for starters, before asking any of the poor, intellectually feeble and continually lied-to morons who have been drip-fed so much of this Donald Trump is "a good person" fighting for you and your values down in the swamp with the latest drainage equipment wrestled from the menacing cabal of James Comey, the EPA, the Dept. of Education, John Bolton, Liz Cheney, Paul Ryan, Judge Luttig, Mitt Romney

without any retraction from the Supreme Council of scum where Cruz, and Lindsey and Hawlet and Mikey Johnson sit ... how can the poor deluded person that Steve Schmidt points to in the vid below between 7:44 and 8:35 hope to be helped/convinced that she has bought into a terrible traitorous mind-bending sham???

    today's offering ....

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) characterized pregnancies resulting from rape or incest as “inconvenient” in a 2021 interview.

Said Vance: “It’s not whether women should be forced to bring a child to term, it’s whether a child should be allowed to live even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society.”

In my view, the problem is there are many in that category who only vote with their wallets. So the candidate who might give them a tax break wins their vote. Single issue. If the world goes up in flames its just collateral damage.

what you say is unfortunately a function of bad education in the Civic-functioning nature of reality.....

Another libertarian arrow-pen writing about "freedom" but tipped in the invisible stab-ink of societal poison.... Again, another thing that was more easily controllable by editors and people who actually expertly know stuff before the age of social media and mass self delusion. Didn't you know that everyone is now John Maynard Keynes and John Kenneth Galbraith - so who needs 'em....
Just like RFK junior and Novak Jocovic are doctors....:rolleyes:

Swifties for Harris. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t get Taylor Swift, her music and the cult, MAGA-like loyalty of her fans. It’s not for me; then again I doubt that I am ever part of her target group. Each to their own, right?

But I know enough to know that if she does endorse Harris, it’ll be nearly game over, that’s how much she can move the needle. The Rolling Stone article linked above shows that potential without Swift herself even saying a word.

Like many bullies, Trump is truly a coward. How anyone thinks he's a tough guy is a mystery. One of the co-hosts of our show, Keith Giles interviewed a conservative Xn Trump supporter in a respectful manner last week and while their conversation was civil, the MAGA Xn's responses were both unsurprising and shocking at the same time. She's educated, but swore she has never heard Trump say anything racist, though she did at least admit that Trump has moral failings without addressing his admission of being a sexual predator. She also admitted that she watches Fux News, but said she balanced that by watching CNN. That's like balancing out a smoking habit by chewing tobacco too. Listening to her speak, I could hear her sincerity -- especially about abortion (which the Bible in no way condemns) but was astonished that she was so blind to everything that makes Trump so awful and to the dangerous precedent set by the January 6th insurrection. Keith didn't want the interview to become a debate so he did his best to let her fully speak about her views, but he did push back a few times with some fact checks. Unsurprisingly, she had not heard the information he presented.

Ironically, multiple things she believed such as Trump isn't a racist and that immigration has been leading to fentanyl being smuggled in were made a mockery of just a few days after the interview was released. Trump's obvious racism was on full display at the NABJ and an American citizen was caught with an enormous amount of fentanyl while crossing the border. I doubt it will be enough to help the scales fall from her eyes though.
